8th Official Mapping Competition!

Custom Content Rules Updates...

Regarding custom content, since I am part of the jury I will NOT during this period (2 march - 16 june) create any new mapmodels on request, not even for those who are not taking part to the competition.
It could give some unfair advantage to some mappers but it will also give me a little break to concentrate on more official forthcoming content and stuff.

However, if a mapper find something useful on AKIMBO let me know and I will double check that item for optimization and compatibility for V1.2.
Please make sure you really are going to use that particular item, don't make me waste my time this would only upset me and my opinion on your map may not be as impartial as it should be.

Thank you for your comprehension.

Ok, let's be creative by reproducing the history on AC.

There is no date for the story. There is the story of a century, world history, ancient history, local history, etc. ... An historical fact is one that will leave memories in the future and / or modify it according to his own future.
Here near the town where I live, 200 people died in a fire at a nightclub. This left a historic mark in this small town, they made a memorial. This is local history.
Edited: Bah, maybe not historical facts involving deaths :)
The arrival of man on the moon or mars lol
I'm on the right track?

Sounds awful.

Further to this, please note there are masses of new mapmodels in 1.2 that could be referenced in your cfg ;)

Thank you all for your queries, interest and criticism guys! I've seen a wide variety of ideas already, and hope that we get a few of those into the mapping world.

To answer a vital question, 1.2 models can be used. if the devs are preparing 1.2, we ought to prepare some 1.2 maps, right? ;) With 1.2 being so soon, it makes sense to include them to the non-custom competition.

Thank you 1Cap, for your definition on history. It will require a bit of research on my part I guess, which I'm more than willing to do! I know history can affect the world, and can affect just a few, so I will try my best to make sure that the 'theme' rating is as true as it can be.

Any questions, you can ask me on IRC, here or through private message if you so wish. I will not give you an opinion on your idea, but if you have any uncertainties I can guide you. <3

Leave the judging to the judges and it will be sorted. I think we all have a reasonable idea of what is historic, jus' sayin.

I think I've a reasonable idea too, but there is something that stills confuse me, the theme is the theme, we obviously can't negociate for another ...
The problem is that Snoosnoo (and judges) are waiting for creative contents, but wait, history can't be modified afaik, we must reproduce something that happened and be creative?

When I see RKTnoob showing a real plans, the map he will make about this plan will be everything but creative.

I don't know if you understood what I'm trying to explain, I hope so.

I see where Exo is going with this. It actually makes sense. This map contest isnt judging the best creation, its judging the best REcreation.

The plan is modifiable to an extent, but I think the main creativity move I'm gonna make is creative texturing if I can pull it off. Don't be discouraged by the theme, just make a map, I'm sure you can come with a plausible explanation why is it connected to history after you make it. If you're running out of ideas, ask for help =)

Does it really have to be based on a historical event, or is just a historical location, or something that you think "could have existed" in history enough?

e.g. if your map is inspired by roman architecture, would that be considered historical in this contest?

I'm gonna guess that anything will be acceptable, if it's related to something historic. Just be sure not to stray too far from the main theme, in danger of losing marks in that area.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but yes, it can be a location you could expect to see from the past.

ac_douze is so overplayed that it entered in the world history, i'll make a re-make of this map.
Thanks given by:

This will be interesting to see the entries, you can have a 1:1 exact clone of an historical area (ex: grass field for battle of bull run) and the judges will be meanies about it and give it bad points. So it has to be standard ac look/feel with a mix of history. This makes me think most of us are stuck with doing urban areas from past wars or cheating(not technically cheating) by making a straight up AC map then adding a couple mapmodels following their history story.

Probably won't get good marks in the theme category. Just saying.

Atleast I have no mapping experiences and I will make my first map ever so I'll e happy if it will look like some sort of 'historical' event

I'm making Atlantis.

Although I'm being an asshole about the theme, I do like it. Green, Desert and Snow are all fairly basic themes. History adds a bit of spice to the mix.

I'm happy to report that the Klis fortress is almost half way done. I finished the slow, hard part, and I predict the going will be easier now. Yes, it does feature multi leveled buildings and no upper walls at all.

Yeah all the stairs and up/down/up/down bricks on the outer walls is very time consuming. Looks pretty cool for a layout.
