ACWC/ACTV clients
#61
I was fluctuating between 1 and 2. It will also deal with how fast your computer is, because the more tps a server has the lower ping (probably).
Thanks given by:
#62
huh
how the hell can ping correlate to fps?
is there a technical explanation for this?
Thanks given by:
#63
Yes,

video rendering is not independent from network transmission. So when you limit your framerate, you limit the whole updating of the game, which means the network.

You must remember the whole /maxfps 5 lag flag capture cheat thing? Back in the legacy clan days iirc.

Binaries updated !

ATM only windows clients are available but the others will be available very soon.

YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR BINARIES UP TO DATE, OTHERWISE THE SERVER WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU ARE USING THE ACWC CLIENT.

Latest version (version 2)

Hi.
Thanks for your input. As SKB says, the issue is quite similar to the linux bug we're having with the SVN
I updated the download link with a client that *could* be fixed. I'm not promising anything - you should download it again and try - but that's all i can do for now.
models rendering was not changed at all, so the problem isn't clear to me.

I can play on any server but whenever I try to join xenoob or gaia (acwc servers) the game freezes on the black startscreen with the AC logo and the map name at the bottom. Mac client. Any ideas?

Moto had the same problem.
I can't help with that.
RR built the client.
I thought he had tested.
Moto didn't mention it 2 days ago when he first tried and failed... just told me at the last moment.
but i can't do anything.
wait for RR....

you mixed the ACWC client with the SVN ?!!!
ofc it won't work

Lucas, when i posted in this section i was talking about the acwc client, then on IRC you told me to download the SVN version and the client @ http://88.190.35.204/mods/acwc/linux-3.zip

Well. The crash i posted before rarely happen with the default clients but happen almost everytime when i use the acwc client together with v1104.
Thanks given by:
#82
i still don't get it. download the latest bins (they got updated after your first post) and patch your 1104 installation;

I asked you to test the SVN later so as to try (together) a few clients built in different conditions (in order to work on the linux bug)
Thanks given by:

Ok, np. Played about a hour with the last update for acwc and didn't crash. Also can see the flags when i connect to a acwc server, couldn't see it in the last client.

About the OpenAL crash don't know much how to help because it just happen sometimes. Anyway, i can test some clients on SVN and previous version. Ty
Thanks given by:

Hello. OpenAL appeared to crash in your client because it lost the connection after the game actually crashed for another reason ;)

but good to see it works now

Sorry to bother Luc@s, both a teammate of mine and I have problem running the linux client under Ubuntu: we are missing the libenet.so.1 library. I managed to download a copy on internet and I put it into /usr/lib directory, and client started. But I cannot connect to masterserver nor connect using the /connect command.

More strange thing is that when I launch the default client after this, the same connection problems appear and I have to reset the adsl modem (so to obtain a new IP) to be able to connect again. It seems I get automatically put on masterserver blacklist after launching the acwc client with (random?) libenet library.

As a last resort I can ask you to give a link from where to download the libenet library you use. It is a 64-bit system.

Thanks

EDIT: as SKB correctly said, libraries do not go into /usr/bin (of course it was a typo in this message, as the client did started :)

Why scavenge the net for god knows what, when you can just use Ubuntu repos. Also, it's a library, it's not supposed to be in /usr/bin.

I'm not sure if you can find libraries from repos in the 'Software Center', as it's abstracted away Ubuntu repos and their store into one bloaty thing. To download packages you use a package manager, called apt (Ubuntu's default). So, you either type sudo apt-get install libenet1a in a terminal or download synaptic (graphical front end for apt) and search for libenet1a. Also, since ubuntu installs apturl, you can click on "use Ubuntu repos", too.

Libraries usually live in /lib, /usr/lib or /usr/local/lib. See this wiki page if you want to know what lives where in Linux/Unix.

Lucas, can you compile versions that don't use shared libraries of e-net? I believe this is how it currently works, right?

Somehow everytime i open the acwc client i have to insert my name again and all settings so it basically looks like ive just downloaded it and play it for the first time. My saved and autoexec are full of settings which i now have to set again everytime i want to play ac. Is there anyway i can get them to work?

(i also cant load unofficial maps but idk if thats normal)
