I'd like to bring your attention to an issue that is slowly rising up to consume these forums: the (dis)respect of forum rules and the need to define how warning points should be handed out.
Every day i see users breaking forum rules under the eyes of moderators who don't seem to do anything about minor (although repetitive) offenses. But how can we classify these offense as "minor" if nothing is stated on the forum rule thread?
For reference: http://forum.cubers.net/thread-1300.html
As i see it, all rules are presented as having the same level of "importance". They're all rules. There is no rule that ranks other rules (and, by association, the severeness of the punishment that comes with disrespecting them).
In my eyes, the Forum Rules thread should be reorganized stating which rules are essential. Also, info concerning warning points should be included, instead of it being a free-will business by the mods. For example, single offenders of rules 3 or 9 don't deserve warning points, while someone that expressively insults a certain race should receive some.
There was a mass response by the forum users against censorship in these forums last year. However, the current situation is the opposite. IMO a little more activity on those message-editing, thread-closing, point-distributing fingers would improve our community experience.
I'd love some feedback.

Anyways, this forum needs to mandate these long-deserved points to people that clearly deserve them.
Or we can purge the forums via vote-poll.

It's ironic since it was only some months ago that everyone was angry with the mods warning and doing too much.
Though titi, you have a point and it would be nice to edit that forum rules page and clarify some points and add some unmentioned content.

I think these cycles are normal. Like the fluctuations of prey and hunter populations, there are times when there is over moderation, followed by protests from the community, and times, like nowadays, when there is under moderation. However, with some effort the cycles may be smoothed greatly.

Clarifying rules is a great idea. Adding a bunch of idiots to the mod team is not. I know that doesn't need to be stated, but i somehow doubt this thread was intended for junior moderators to come out of the woodworks.

No, what did happen was a few of us realizing that the present moderation has been...erratic, so we thought it would be good to bring it here to discuss how the rules should be/enforced/looked upon/possibly changed.

Quite frankly titPT is right on the money, I personally am sick of seeing abuses of the so called rules both here and amoungst the clans. If people dont want rules then thats fine but do not pretend you have them and then only apply them when it suits you! I have personally had to enforce rules against people i both like and are clan mates with, I still did it because that was the right thing to do. What I see when i look around AC now is a huge old boys club, if you are mates with someone you can getaway with anything, well its about time this community faced up to it, do away with the rules and carry on as you are or actually start enforcing them FOR EVERYONE! and the clans out there you could start doing the same, or you might find yourselfs named and shamed here!

“Forum rules” I would prefer to call them guidelines. I remember when they were written and it was in response to a huge wave of garbage trolling that went on a couple of years ago. There was a quite a lot of complaints about over moderation and some of it was quite justified and some of it not. I do think is ironic to that some are complaining there isn’t enough moderation going on. I think over moderation can sometimes perpetuate the problem.
I must be either paying little attention to threads or getting complacent to it all but I don’t see what the big issue is? Maybe it’s just me but I feel that the majority of moderators around here use their common sense when moderating. I might be wrong?
I would feel sorry if moderators had to waste their time using some complicated system of evaluating forum user’s contributions to threads and calculate warning points based on some convoluted graded system. But that is for them to decide.
p.s Oh and hi there Morgan, get your ass back in game its long overdue!

Yeah, IMO, i think the forum is fine in terms of moderation. Warning points are given when they are needed.
I havent noticed anything over or under moderated.

who did this one? How many warning points for that? I bet 99% of people there posted before reading this. gogogogogo ban !!!
I wont quote all of those rules but some of them are dumb as fuck (rule 19 helloooooo).

I disagree. All the rules are necessary. About rule 19 (since it was the one you mentioned), how would you feel reading a forum where more than half the posts were meaningless 10char expressions?
There should be a distinction between forum etiquette and forum rules.
Don't be an ass - forum etiquette, requires (a small degree of) repeated abuse to deserve points.
Don't advertise cheats or post racist/pornographic images - forum rule, one offense being worthy of sanction.

|BME|dwarf (har har), Rule 19 is legit, man. If we didn't have that, people would be spammin' threads consisting of just "lol" n' shit. I will say that I highly doubt most of us have actually read the rules, since in my time here I've seen a shit ton of violations of #1.
Never violate Rule #1 o_o

it is not dwarf ... it is Edward ... (the E is in the tag har har).
Btw it is too hard for me to teach you guys in English the basics of the freedom of expression. If I say +1 about somebody's post, it is because I agree with him and I want people to know it. Maybe you will find my post useless but take care because some others could find some of your "detailed" posts useless too. It is something really subjective. For example if I say "+1", I am more on topic than the guy who will say "hey you : rule 19".
It is a forum and it is on the internet. When you post something, you expect other people to react about it. If they have nothing to say, then they wont post but if they log in and post a "lol", it is their right.
You wanna see your forum respected? Respect our posts. But I will give you guys some tips to avoid warning points. Do not say only "lol" ... instead say "wow this post was funny and made me laugh really hard so I wanted you guys to know how this post was funny and to say thanks to the guy who wrote it" (hypocrisy)

I agree in gender, number and degree.
Fully subjective in some cases.
... In addition, an attitude of moderation must be given with a reasonable explanation.
I'm 20% WL. Cmon.

This is where you are so very wrong. The internet does not have this freedom of speech you talk about. How do I know this? Look at YouTube for your biggest example. When you enter a community, every community has their own set of rules that you must indeed follow and here we may/will react to your "lol" post because it is against our rules. You have freedom of speech when protected by the government on neutral turf but when you are in someone else's turf then you respect their order.

Respect our rules and then we can all respect your posts. It is a privilege that you are here, not a right. If you thought something was funny, well then guess what we have this thing called the assaultcube quotes thread.

well seems that you did not understood my post. I do not say people do not have to respect rules. I just say that some rules should not be and I tried to explain why (with my poor English).
Quote:Respect our rules and then we can all respect your posts. It is a privilege that you are here, not a right.
You are a dev or a mod I guess. I am really sorry to say because you seems to be a nice guy and you do good job with the wiki and the clan list section but your post looks so condescending (ty for allowing me to play YOUR game and post on YOUR forum).
This is the forum of the AssaultCube community here right? So when you say OUR rules, you talk about rules decided by this community and not the rules decided by you and your friends? Do you know that I am part of the AC community too? If you ask me what I have done for, I will answer you that I play this game, I do not hack and I have done many french tutorials for some of my friends. So those rules are mine too right? So why do I disagree with them?
I do not disagree with all of them and I do not really care about but it irritates me when someone criticize the pertinence of one of my post by quoting those senseless rules. You want me to share my point of view so I do. I was not aggressive like you. We are talking about the rules, not about how important you are and how small I am.
Btw it does not work like that. Remember that without us you are nothing. You need us as we need you. Respect as to be mutual. This game is not yours and you are not the AC community, you are only part of it (humility you know).
Sorry if I am rude but you tried to humiliate me by showing me where was my place (does it make any sense uu?).
