No. We all learned from docs, why can't you? But you are in a bad situation, docs are very lacking for Mac.

Why would you like to make your own server? What type of connection do you have?

Wireless...
give up :D
Wireless isn't good for servers. Too unreliable.

Follow the Tutorial posted by Castiel, it should help you:

He means, you can't trust your wireless to actually give good signal every second, since comparing a wireless's bandwidth (a range of frequencies within a given band , in particular that used for transmitting a signal) to a wired signal makes wireless look like crap.
Bandwidth is like your modem's signal waves going to every machine using it like a laptop or even an iPhone.
Those waves are what let you connect to the internet; for your mac, the Airport signal with the four bars is precisely that.
Bad thing about wireless though, it's inconsistent for the reason that not every single wave will get perfectly received, unlike a wired connection in which the waves are precisely passed through the wire into your machine.

for a 24/7 the only way is to rent it from a provider :

Quote:Go to System Prefernces>Network and select your connection. CLick Advanced, and then TCP/IP. . Click the drop-down menu under Configure IPv4 and select Using DHCP with manual address. In the box, enter the IP address that was originally where the box is. Click OK, then Apply.

That's my bad. Somebody hasn't donated to me a mac to play with. I'm an ex-windows (WinXP and previous, haven't used anything after XP) user and a current Linux (Ubuntu 9.04 - Jaunty) user.
EDIT: By the way, donations for a new mac are welcome ;)
EDIT EDIT: By the way, the differences between Linux and Mac are not that great. If you can't read the Linux docs, and then figure out the small differences between the 2 systems to do what you want, you shouldn't really be running a server.

Actually, not even that is true. Most of this "inconsistency" (probability of a packet not getting through correctly) is down to interference, and you can have interference even in wired environments, although it's much less than in wireless environments.
For wireless, it's smart to try and use a different frequency (5Ghz) and also an unused channel. If you check all the networks that are present in your area, and see that, say, channel 11 is used by 5 of them, then it's kind of stupid to be using channel 11.
Also, connectivity problems can also be down to your ISP routing those UDP packets improperly: you're not guaranteed to get the same route for them as you are with TCP... so one packet from Europe to Australia can go through Canada, and another can go through US. There's also throttling, which you can't avoid :)
I am sure that there are some Mac users out there (like TSOR) who have managed to get their servers running easily, and perhaps could post some better documentation, I dunno? :)

alright now use the port forwarding guide: http://portforward.com/english/routers/p...ys/WRT54G/
use 192.168.1.50 for the ip address to forward to and ports 28763 and 28764 to open. protocol should be udp and tcp.
