Making the thread to see if anyone else will actually be watching this year & gravedigging it in August when this starts off.

Any hardcore fans know about it. And casual fans all know about it now because the roster just got released so it's all over ESPN :) It's not really an issue here, since basketball is a major sport in America. Basketball fans in general know about it, especially if their team qualified. But it's unknown to non-fans, whereas Soccer's world cup brings in non-fans anyways. Still a clash of countries and fun competition though.

Im american, enjoy college and nba ball. Never heard of fiba.
I also prefer to not watch games where a team comes from a country specializing in a sport for years and then just crushes because of that fact. Im imagining a team from the nba playing vs north korea or some shit. Wouldnt even be right.

I'll probably be only watching games from the US and France maybe (depends on the roster we have this year...).
I like the roster USA picked this year, they didn't went with the easy one (Howard,LeBron,Melo,CP3...) to win it, but they picked younger players and it will be interesting to see how those guys can compete on an international level and with the FIBA rules :) I'm guessing top 8 will be a competition between France, Spain, Argentina, Greece, USA, Turkey, Lithuania, Australia. There's over 200 basketball leagues worldwide. Everyone in this has grown up, played the game, and trains daily. It's completely fair. It's not like America made excuses because most of their guys stay home and play MLS soccer. Europe has more popularity-hence more soccer players, but both sides have equal chances to be good. But that can be said for any sport. It's also a very good game for underdogs. College basketball March Madness anyone? Guys not in the top 1000 beat guys all in the top 50 every year for a game. I'm not sure they refused to play, but I actually think the USA team staff decided not to pick them. They already did that in 2010 when it World Championship was held in Turkey, they chose second tier players (Rudy Gay, Iguodala, Granger, Billups,Odom, Eric Gordon...) instead of the classical Kobe, LeBron, Dwight, Melo, CP3. Because they wanted to test out some players. I feel like they're doing the same sort of scouting this year with younger talents. I think Team USA only brings out the "big squad" for the Olympics, and even during the preparation phase, they test out young players (remember Irving, Curry, Faried, Cousins) by making them play against the team A. I like how they do it, since USA has enough players, they prefer bringing and giving a chance to newcomers rather than keep the old, confirmed players. Good philosophy ^^

Yeah, America will be tough to beat this year.
Our bench has a similar skill level compared to our starters, so we can keep everyone rested while playing at a high level all game. :D Got a pretty easy group too. Turkey is solid. Dominican Republic/Ukraine/New Zealand/Finland aren't too good. The Knockout rounds is where it gets interesting.

I used to play basketball in past and I even watched one world cup, when I was twice younger. But, same as for football(soccer), it is much more fun to play it than watch, imho.

I think the world champs (Spurs)should play, and prove they are the WORLD Champs. Same thing when the summer Olympics come back in '16 whoever the "WORLD" champs are should play then as well
