new customized playerskin
#1
Hello!
How could I design a new customized playerskin and use it ingame?
I mean that also the other online players will see my customized skin...
Is this possible?
thanks

Publish the skin here, on http://akimbo.in and on http://quadropolis.us and they'll install the custom skin according to http://assault.cubers.net/docs/playerskins.html if they wish.

Ok thanks!
And how to build the new skin? are there tools, or similar?
Or a tutorial...

No one will hold your hand, but all you need to skin is some decent graphics editing software (ex GIMP).

OK Gibstick. I have it, and other programs too...
But what I was asking, is what should I do?
Just re-design this image:

/packages/models/playermodels/skin.jpg

replacing the parts, or should I design all the sprites? (positions, etc...)

You need to upload an image before it can be displayed.

If you wanna edit the model you'll need 3D editing software :D
I haven't a clue. Let's hope Bukz comes and saves the day.

3-D modeling is a whole different universe. Trust me, unless you have a TON of time to devote to it and can handle a huge amount of emotional pain this is not what you want to try first.

OK thanks.
And what about the Gimp-like photo editing software?
A 3D modeling software is not a photo editing software!

I can keep the 3D standard model, I'd like just change the "design" of it!

Where or what should I re-paint?

Thanks!

For the most part, a lot of AC modders use Gimp for weapon/player skins. you adjust the skins in the cla, rvsf, and ffa folders in the playermodels folder or you can add custom ones that only appear for some nicknames.

Interesting thing about nicknames....

It worked! I'm triyng to modify the jpg of the skin and it works!
For example, it applies the face on the 3D playermodelskin!!!

Now I need to make these things iOD|Habluka:

1) publish it (also other online players will see it ingame)
2) let it appear only using some nicknames that I will define

How to make these steps?

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!

Hi Mr.Floppy... I looked for a complete manual a lot, but I found just online light pages... Which manual are you talking about?

Will this manual tell me where can I find the 3D model too (I'd like to try to edit it)?

Thanks.

Better stay away from editing the model... believe me...

Aries_MU, actually there is no explanation how to mod particular parts of the game. In the end it's all about manipulating sounds, 2D and 3D media. You have to figure out how to do this yourself after all.

The manuals/documentation coming with AC are about how to play, making maps, setting up server and so on. Your request is going far beyond the game itself in first place.

If you are interested in 3D modelling you may have a look at this:
Modelling Basics

Anything going further will be explained along the documentation/manuals/tutorials of the particular software.

Since nobody wants to help this guy, I registered again.

First, check the following link:
http://assault.cubers.net/docs/playerskins.html

Second, look at my examples.

These are named so that people with "B2K" in their nickname use the B2K ones, and people with "haydugjr" in their name can use the haydug ones. These only show up for me and other people who have the skins installed. To let other people see your custom skin, they have to be named along the lines of "nickname_ffa.jpg" or "nickname_cla.jpg", AND they have to have them saved in their packages\models\playermodels\custom. PM me if you need help. I thought about making a reference picture (i.e these are back of legs, this is right arm), but decided I didn't feel like it.

Once you get your skins finished, you want to upload them somewhere, and tell you're friends to download them.

You are right, but some people probably won't download it just to watch him use it.
And then, if they think it's a good player skin, they'll use it for themselves, which probably isn't a bad thing, but it defeats the purpose of the first post.
