No, I mean if your forward speed is 1.0 and your strafe speed is 1.0, you move diagonally at 0.75 or something. Shouldn't that just be reduced to 1.0 and none less? O_o

That's the point - it isn't. You're 1.3 times as fast when running forward as when strafing [source].
