There's a french expression that says "La crème de la crème" ("the cream of the cream" lol).
It's based on the fact that cream is the most fat part of milk, so when you let the milk "stand", the cream will stay on top.
As cream is reputed for being "rare", we compare the cream to the "best" part of milk.
So when you say someone is "the cream of smth" it means he's the best of it.
As i've always heard and seen you as a cool guy and a very nice teamate compared to the other players who were mentioned previously (i think it was Larry & Vault), i said "Waffles yea, he's the cream of a mate"..
