Ok, since IPV6 has been rolled out on major websites and other places, AC needs to support IPv6 also, along with regular ipv4.
Just a suggestion, Tell me what you think

What's the advantage? I don't know much about IPv6 other than the fact that it can accomodate more addresses.

Can somebody explain this for the less computer-literate masses?

IPv6 is a new style of IP addresses, offers a lot more combinations than the standard 4 octet combination we know now (e.g. 192.0.0.1)

Jg, you didn't answer my question really. What would be the advantage of AC supporting IPv6? The current system seems to work fine, although I'm no expert. Care to explain sir?

Oh. Well in that case...
.
K I looked through a couple of the links. I wouldn't say that AC "needs" this feature, since that would only delay that hasty arrival of 1.1.1 (btw did anybody else notice Brahma pop on the AC irc? Can only mean under 24 hours until the new version's long-awaited arrival :D), but it's not bad.

Eventually, AC will require IPv6, or it will die. Thats why AC needs IPv6, cause IPv4 is gonna eventually not exist

As far as I understand it, Jg99 is correct about AC needing to implement them eventually.
Edit: Meaning the poll is just silly.

I decided to bring this up, because I think it's time to do this before IPv4 is dead

I think it'll be a while until IPv4 is phased out. AssaultCube may be dead before IPv4 is.

Yes , if you miss them, they are there along with your intelligence, which is sadly missed.
RIP FlamiĀ“s intelligence AND good servers.

Why on earth would this thread need to be stickied when the devs already know this is something that inevitably must happen?

idk, i think it should be stickied so the devs get to it quickly

ipv4 will still survive some more time, and when eventually it starts to stop existing and becoming obsolete everyone will know and the change will be done anyway.

I would say that IPv6 should be implemented sooner, rather than later. I would say that there should be IPv4 fallback in case someone is using an older operating system that does not support it. I would say that it should be implemented after 1.1.1, as that would delay the release further.

I'd like to think the devs are well aware of this and will deal with it as needed. Or jg99, you could do some real coding and contribute. Either way, it will get sorted. Or it won't. Seems like the next y2k the way you're describing it.

Surprisingly enough, IPv6, IPv4, nor the related status of AC has changed since those threads.
I mostly included those to give more background info.

As for v6 support in AC, that would be relatively easy. Most of the work would need to be done within Enet, but I'm sure eihrul is well aware of this and will do it as it's needed, so no need to annoy him.
