a new thought .

All we hear is radio woop, radio woop. radio woop these days......... xd
I have been thinking of a new competition.

That woop take on a selective set of players from other clans.
Difference is this . Each team have a novice .
And they have to protect that novice coz he is their points earner.
In short team can score millions ....it dont matter, its what your apprentice scores.

I will think about adding a £250 prize to the team that wins.
Also there maybe another prize in the offing..

I will contact For3v3r with the money at the end of this month.
Dates are for him to handle , Me I am gonna just play in my custom servers

The novice would have to be agreed upon by for3v3r.

This will not take place until all competions are done with as this is just a fun one off game. NB it will not be played as normal rules. ( No show you play with what you have so if Honor has a hangover or Grazy has smallpox for the day. Fed has a dentist appointment . Mpx has a date with Hitler heyo.. games goes on).

What I want from this is that you share you skills with others.

Im in, Lets go

So whats the idea?

w00pies make for example, 3 teams. In each there are 2 w00pies and 1 random player. And the tour Works like a league.

Am I right?

define "novice", in the views of honor, I'm probably a scrub, however in the views of trionkali, I'm a hacker.

Well if I be honest I think that its a fun competition this and I would like to see novice players involved.
In essence the team would have to train the novice as it is him/her that will be the points scorer. Oh of course some will try and pass the flag. That would be deducted.

We have a while to sort this out. But I am open to ideas.
In respect of novice I suspect I mean a person that has not played in competitions before.
I guess a pool of applicants from clans and the teams are randomly given that player. (Unless there is a dislike or mistrust of that player.) IDK.

All I am hoping to achieve is interest from newish or unskilled players. I do not want to dictate a competition. It will be everyones competition so perhaps over the next few weeks set up some sort of frame work. Servers, teams a list of novice players ( we perhaps can tour the clans forum and leave a message once we kind of get things going). Any help would be appreciated.

So what we really need are novices that could play the part, and the goal is for the veteran teams to escort their 'noobs' to greatness?

Ideally, these guys would be non-clan members who are objective in their regard of any given clan.
And possibly each team would need to rotate through a schedule with each noob... err I mean novice sorry....
Then you maximize the exposure of experience to the novices and also eliminate bias on their behalf.
Just some thoughts since you mentioned me...

As I said its open to discussion and planning. But let me send the money at the end of the month and we can go from there.

With 250$ you could easily organise a 24 teams tournament on the match client without anyone complaining and not showing up

Just saying :)

tbh I wouldn't play for the money, but the money would encourage competition and tough games so I'd be down for that

I have noted what you said for3v3r and am thinking about it lots.
I will maybe have to unravel my thoughts on this as it was not my intention to expose novice players to what you describe.

hmmmm

also it was not very prudent of me to mention you.. But if I be honest your the one person I trust in AC with doing things.

ok I will now stop with this offer as it is not right what I wanted.

I will think of another way to involve new players.

my Intentions were as always meant well.

Either way - I thank you because you do have some great intentions, I know this.

AC is at a hard crossroads right now as we watch the competitive scene begin to diverge on to their own path entirely, while many of us are trying to figure out how we can make the game we love more attractive for new(er) players...

I've said it before, but we just need to quit sh***ing on newer players, and instead give tolerance and a kind word of advice where it is pertinent.

Competitive types want to fork off in to their own scene and I see very little work being done by this type of player for shrinking the skill gap that has developed in-game. (Just my observation)

Meanwhile, we do see new players trying out the game and joining in, but without any kind of guidance or incentive to develop skill-sets - outside of kill-count. (Or very little guidance anyway)

While I wholeheartedly think the alternative match client scene is a neat idea and fills a void for the people who have bought in to it, I think it is also guaranteeing a further demise of the competitive scene by becoming so distant from the main community and secluded from the masterserver, in the name of rapid-development.
The rate with which new players grow and develop is not fast enough, at the moment, to ensure an expanding and enriching experience inside the competitive scene.

And creating a separate environment controlled by a slim amount of people who have minimal involvement within the main community is not a solution to the issue.

As I see it now, the AC community has already forked in this sense. And no amount of prize money can fix that. Said only IMHO (It is fair to disagree)

But now, I must apologize to have used this as a means for a tangent that has gone completely off-topic. And I am thankful there are some out there that still believe and are trying to help the late-joiners to bloom in to cubers.

And, again - thank you, vector, for trying to make a difference. =)

$50 was enough for Halo to cheat in a mapping contest so I'd be glad to see what it's like with the competition scene.

@+f0r3v3r i think you're misunderstanding ActionFPS completely, it actually gave some visibility to the competitive scene and thanks to it we got quite a few newcomers to discover it.

@Luc@s - I would argue that I don't misunderstand it at all, and I wasn't attacking the concept in any way, actually.

But I hardly think that it is the right direction to be taking the scene, either. You absolutely will disagree with my reasons and that is fine.

And that is a reason for me not to waste another keystroke discussing it here. Your team will do what it feels is the right thing and, there is no crime in that. But, I will say it is sad to see the division in the playerbase that I see growing ever wider.

If you would like to hear what I feel on the matter, feel free to reach out to me. Otherwise, I won't bother ranting here. But don't tell me I have no understanding of ActionFPS. I have followed this all very closely, actually.

[...]

The idea you missed is that our goal is to catch new players with the website, outside of the current AC playerbase. So it can't, in anyway, divide the playerbase, since the goal is to introduce AC 'competitive' gameplay /as/ the game direction for newcomers.

This assumes that AFPS is the defacto competitive side of AC, without regard for existing players who disagree with the handling of the service, including the lack of freely available source code.

AFPS gives coherence and visibility to the pre existing competitive side of AC

what is it supposed to mean ? people who 'disagree' are free not to use this service. Simple as that... Goes for everything...

You can play with the official AC client, until a new client is released with the source, so i don't see how it is a point.

we have a few match servers (not all) that require to use our client for those who want, and some tournaments required it because of its extra features
