I've always been fascinated with mapmodels and such. what is the size limit (if any) for mapmodels? I was thinking, if a mapmodel was big enough, I could just use it along with multiple clips as the map environment itself.

I don't think there is a limit and this question has been asked a while ago.
It would lag and drop your FPS because your client has to load the whole model, all single detail etc.
It would be annoying to do because AC editor is faster than a model editor.
It would be longer to do because you will have to clip everything manually.
It would be ugly because it will only have 1 shade of light as light source.

Unfortunately like exoduss said the cube engine no matter how optimized the model is, if its used enough times it will drop frames and make the game laggy. Most people if you had a map that was purely mapmodels wouldn't be able to play it.
But you can experiment with it if you want, good luck.

And I was saying the whole map be a single model. I can clip all night if I have to.

However, I think there is a limit of the maximal size of the texture, I am not sure how huge a texture can be but maybe it's around 5x5k pixels. You should do the test before starting the modelling because, such a huge mapmodel will certainly need a huge texture.
