The Lost Valley of Gawngi, 1969. It's so bloody awful it's hilarious <3 The plot involves a group of cowboys chasing a capybara through some mountains, and coming across a valley of dinosaurs. They catch Gwangi, set him in display in a circus, he escapes and has an epic battle with an elephant, then goes around the town eating everyone.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Leon the Professional yet. Definitely my #1.
The movie features Jean Reno (also starring in Ronin, another great film) as Leon, a hitman who ends up fostering a young girl after her entire family is gunned down. After refusing several times, Leon takes on the girl as a protege and teaches her the trade.

From the last few years, I'd say Hurt Locker and Inception.
While Hurt Locker has a lot of factual errors, it just touches something. From earlier, Shawshank Redemption. No doubt. |
