As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong), it's not so unusual for people to have guns in their homes in New Zealand, kind of like the US.

Just another reason that NZ sucks.
Also, from what I gather it was a pair of shotguns. Not like he had a cache of automatic weapons or anything.

Having guns in private home should not be a everyday thing.
Having a shotgun for hunting and bullets for it (not like a slug) is okey, but having a 50 caliber gun made for killing peoples is not okey.

Just another reason that NZ sucks. There are other reasons that make a country suck, trust me. And saying that (unless you are from NZ I suppose) is just plain stupid and offensive.
It's curious though, how this shifted from Megaupload to guns, lol.

Guns are f***ing stupid. The only good thing that's come out of guns are shooting games.

Addressing the thread topic:
Megaupload was shut down by a multinational operation with existing laws; such a large operation sorta illustrates how we have existing systems to combat big offenders (so we don't need SOAPDISH and PIPER :P)
Megaupload's owners are millionaires and they knew they were hosting illegal content, and knew they were making money off hosting illegal content. They found many internal emails from employees like "ooh, look what this guy uploaded".

I have two questions:
1.What happens with the people who had Premiun Accounts?
2.Is this the first move towards "Private Internet"? (Paying for digital content?)

Guns are f***ing stupid. The only good thing that's come out of guns are shooting games. Of course, defending yourself in those cases (hoping that anything like that will never happen) is pointless; rely to a prayer, who knows, it may be more useful than a gun.

Yeah. Robbers forcibly enter my home with firearms, intent on robbing me and willing to harm my family. I'll ignore the 12 gauge behind my door and drop to my knees.
That's a pretty asinine suggestion. God helps those who help themselves, if you believe in that sort of thing.
Filesonic and Fileserve have now restricted their services in response to MegaUpload being down. You can only download things you've personally uploaded. .... That's just great.

HA. You would not believe the number of people that own guns unnecessarily here in the US. Last I heard there were 83 guns for every 100 people, though many people that own a gun own multiple.
An elderly couple just down the street from my house owns a rifle for protection(A ridiculous excuse if you ask me. I hate to say it but we live in a privileged homogeneous white neighborhood that happens to be right next to the local police station; nobody here needs protection). Each day they bring the gun downstairs, and each night they take it back upstairs.
Apparently the gun was not only carried down and up each day and night but the gun was loaded and the safety was off. So one day the husband is moving the rifle and it obviously goes off. Shot his wife in the shoulder. AFAIK she's fine.
When I first heard the story I joked that maybe she should have her own gun for protection from him and his gun can protect him from her.

I think that U.S. Citizens should have the right to bear arms, but should also have mandatory military service. The problem isn't that we have lots of guns, it's that anyone can get one, regardless of whether they know how to properly handle it or not. I think that if people are taught to respect the firearm and to understand it's true power, they will handle them accordingly.

It should be up again soon. The owner of MegaUpload has made so much money, bailing out should not be too much of a problem...

And you are wandering why there is so much killings there.
The problem is not guns, its not guns that kill, its stupid ppl with guns that kills.
So making it harder to own a gun is a good thing.
Or like Chris Rock says it:
Gun control? We need bullet control! I think every bullet should cost $5,000. Because if a bullet cost $5,000, we wouldn't have any innocent bystanders. That'd be it. Every time someone gets shot, people will be like, ''Damn, he must have did something. S**t, they put $20,000 worth of bullets in his ass.'' People would think before they killed somebody, if a bullet cost $5,000. ''Man, l would blow your f**king head off, if l could afford it. l'm gonna get me another job, l'm gonna start saving some money, and you're a dead man! You better hope l can't get no bullets on layaway.'' So even if you get shot by a stray bullet, you won't have to go to no doctor to get it taken out. Whoever shot you would take their bullet back. ''l believe you got my property.''
