There was a time decades ago that you might be able to ask what is important in the US but the country is so dichotomized and the political atmosphere is so toxic it's impossible to say what is important to the country on all but the simplest principles. It's hardly one country anymore.

I agree mael, but what should be important to the governance of our people is outlined pretty explicitly in our constitution. Secularity is definitely something that is supported.

The problem is when people with questionable motives put others with questionable motives into power. Now the Constitution is raped every day for the convenience of a few loudmouths.

And, yes, schools aren't allowed to lead in prayer -- perhaps that is what makes people feel like it's banned altogether. Try saying a prayer in class sometime, and see who stops you.
