The fact that you're getting a list means you're not in a banned IP range. I can only assume that something at your end is preventing your client from receiving the servers' details. Firewall perhaps?
I seem to remember that some people have reported this happening with all/some servers, and it fixes itself over time.

Well it looks like you don't have a problem with directly connecting, I'm not too sure how you would go about solving this since I don't usually use ubuntu. Try turning your machine off and on again and try again, or reset your router.

So you're really connected to that server? Does it say "connected to server" in the top-left corner?

Indeed, what messages do you get on your console?
Did you install from the ubuntu-repository; maybe you should simply use the sf.net linux package .

P.S : As i said, i can't install this game from the ubuntu repository, because they have an out to date version, which is not supported by the master server.

But it clearly says there that someone joined, so you're definitely connected and receiving packets. You just get disconnected again after a few seconds for some reason.

you can get this version (which is currently played) in ubuntu software center... make sure you entered this in terminal
 sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2debian-all libsdl-image1.2 libsdl-ttf2.0-0 libopenal1

just copy it in terminal and try again

 hint:
mark whole line and press scroll button for copying in terminal (only that's how copying things in terminal works)

BTW, when you disconnected from the server, the server might've crashed (they crash sometimes).
Try the server again, and see if you can stay connected this time.
