Hello everyone! New player here!

Hey guys!

Just wanted to say hello. Completely new to this game and to this community. Very excited to dive in, however! :)

Look forwards to seeing you guys in-game! I played a handful of matches, and I'm hooked.

A few questions ---
1. Is the community generally nice?
2. Is there any competitive scene to speak of?
3. What keeps drawing you back to this game, time and time again?

Cheers!

1. Generally is the key word in that sentence.
2. Look into joining a clan.
3. all four reasons

Generally
That's right, look into joining clans, a list of recruiting ones can be found here: http://forum.cubers.net/thread-4093.html

1. Generally is the best word. People get stuck up and then there are others who care and are really nice.
2. Matches occur daily. You can find matches by joining IRC and going into different clan channels of your interest and find a match. AC has a few ladder systems in place for keeping track of your scores.
3. Beyond the satisfaction of getting that last flag with 3hp and 2 seconds left, the people you meet really :)
Anyways have fun with your new experience!

The community is not built upon who can out-rude and out-douche the next person, like many other gaming communities. Also, in terms of competitive scene, there is much. But depends on where you're from.

1. There can be douches, although a lot of them don't hang around the forums much (because they're banned :P ). Generally nice, though.
2. Definitely. Clans are the way to go (make sure you get to know a few clans before joining one though).
3. The IRC channels and my clan. :D

What do you mean?

I'm asking the players who have been here quite some time what about this game keeps drawing them back, to get a sense of what the best aspects of this game are.

I really don't know much about this game at all -- yet. So I don't understand your question.
Thank you so much for the replies! :)

1. Question is how you define "nice". I just know there are lots of players and the devs who put a lot of effort on the whole thing - Ac is no "dead" game :)

2. There is a clan scene in AC, 99% of them can be found here: http://forum.cubers.net/thread-765.html

there's also the so called Premier League, organized by TaS: http://tas-clan.com/rules

The AC World Cup 2011 (by Lucas) has taken place some months ago.

In sum there is some competetive gameplay, though fun is the main aim of AC.

3. I can just talk for myself: I like the simplicity of the game, it's straight, fast, but tactically interesting (in clan matches). There are no "premium accounts" or shit like that - AC is free for everyone (even if you don't own the newest gaming-Pc and a big broadband-connection)

However, the list given by Benson is now obsolete, as the one I gave in my earlier post is the more recent, more updated version that I undertook.

As for what keeps me coming back to the game, the community really

I haven't the faintest idea why. Was it my question?

That could be asked about any game. The only reason I asked was because, assuming that people who post on these forums do so because they like this game, figured that there must be some reason why this game delivers the enjoyment that it, apparently, does for many. That's all.

Trust me, I am definitely new here. ;)

It is like asking on college tours: "What brought you to ___________ during your college admissions process? What about _________ most appealed to you initially, and what still does?"

The other responses by other users were more of what I was looking for/expecting. Not attempting to criticize you personally, Cleaner; just trying to provide further clarification. :)

1. There's community elite (help manage the forums, fix the game, improve it etc) - There's the rebel clan players (being all bro and stuff, they don't care about devs or the forums :D) - Then there's the trolls (Undead - MusicMan10, any ex-KH player really :D)

2. There is a competitive scene, albeit it is not a huge one say compared with Crossfire or Counter Strike. If you want a serious team experience, I suggest checking out these teams: =MyS=, |dR|, {BoB}, -xW-, w00p|, HyPE|, TaS, -dyH| - they're all active teams that seek out matches everyday. (Sorry if I forgot anyone)

3. I do not know. It's magnetic, that is all I can say.

His posts have made perfect sense, I'm not sure how you're interpreting them. He's asking what keeps people coming back, and he knows people are coming back because of the magnitude of forum posters.

Hi, welcome to hell... I mean... welcome to heaven... no, wait, thats not right either............. I know!
Hello broooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Wasssssssssssup!!!1!1111!
Yes, thats more like it! Howwdy do? You have reached 1 of the 3 most über best top webpages of all time. The other two are Encyclopedia Dramatica and my Youtube Channel Awesomeness XD.
1 - Feel free to get to know the Acubbers; How will you know if we are ok?
Situation 1 : Go to a server which description (right hand side) reads Ladder. Ask questions such as:
-"How do I vote a map?"
-"How to kick?"
-"Force me to the other team"
-To the best player there is in the server : "********, 1 vs 1 ?"
-"Where can I find cheats?" [<--- Actually thatd be wrong to do :( ]
If anybody talks to you, youve got your answer!
Situation 2 : Go to a server which description (right hand side) or Map reads GEMA. Start fragging. If you find yourself insulted and kicked from server, go back, keep fragging. If someone explains to you what a GEMA map is and how to play, youve got your answer! If not, Ban XD.

2 - Already answered!

3 - I come back cause Im still looking for the LlamaKing...
No really, this game is fun and awesome and I come back to learn and improve my skillz whilst I speak with my e-buddies!

See you in-game!

This game has been immensely fun for me so far!

My only gripe is that people go bonkers over minor, accidental team kills. I've never seen such hostility in any other game I've played towards this subject. :|

There are some pubs that tend to have teamkillers a lot, such as Exodus.
Players that go there tend to go for the kill (no pun intended) after getting tk'd once.

Cleaner, you seem to be interpreting his phrase "drawing you back to this game, time and time again" in a personal way, over larger time-scales, referring to periods of inactivity. Instead, I think he really means, what brings you back in between each time you actually sit down and start up the game? Assuming the people here have played AC more than twice, which sounds like a fair assumption.

Hey man welcome to our humble place on the internetz :), hope you get to see the awesome side of this game, which is me lol, nah just joking we have some very nice people and some not so much, but you will always find someone to talk to.

Stay away from trouble and cheats, and add a funny team kill sorry message. Once again hope to see you in game some time.

@ V-Man, you're prolly right.
I am sometimes a little over suspicious with the "Hello I'm new" but that only comes from previous experiences...

@ CaptainAhab no hard feelings, I wish you welcome and about your questions...

1) I think you're gonna have to find that from yourself, as in every community you have trolls but between you and me if I've been here so long there must be a positive reason for it.
2) Competition? Sure there is but there is also a lot of team efforts where clan tags don't mean jack shit.
3) As I have already mentioned somewhere AC is more addictive than any drug available on the market.

Haha hey man, no worries. Confusion makes life more interesting, anyway. ^^

Also, referencing your response to #3, if it's even half as addictive as Quake, I'll force this game on all of my friends with due haste. ;)

Welcome friend, its always good to see new people join our community, you may also want to check out the ladders around here (there is a few) I guess the most used are BoB and TyD but that is no disrespect to the others which are also worthy of checking out.

Look for the popular pub servers if you just want to frag around you will find many of the good players there, even if under alias :)

enjoy yourself and if you need anything just ask.

Hey folks, just wanted to thank you all for welcoming me to such a wonderful game! This and Sauerbraten are the two games I currently play, and I can't wait to play the heck out of both and hopefully get good enough to be relatively competitive in each.

This and Sauerbraten have, thus far, has been the most fun I have had playing competitive games online in a very, very long time.

Look forward to seeing y'all on the battlefield!
