As I said, try different levels and you'll find one you like best.
Theoretically, the FPS should be kept as steady as possible.
Often, people's most comfortable FPS level is synchronized with their monitor refresh rate (/vsync 1), usually between 54 and 72 FPS (commonly 59 or 60) -- or a multiple of that number.

marinaostapchuk : it depends - got an old monitor too ?
Just look at your fps with either vsync 0 or 1 - whatever is more stable will be good.

Lowering resolution always helped me gain some much needed fps, if you can bare it.

au contraire, I'm pretty sure that it is one of those phrases that most (native) english speakers will hear at one time, at least in the USA. It is one of those phrases that has assimilated itself into the english language. Like cul-de-sac, déjà vu, french fry...

I cap my fps at 125 and have vsync off, I don't like vsync but having a stable 125 FPS is better then a choppy 500-1000

I do this too (except I cap at 150). I highly recommend it, vsync is never a good idea (imo) because I feel like it 'slows' my gameplay if that makes sense - however solid FPS at 150 seems to increase my hitreg more than if my FPS was jumping between 150 and 190. Just my two cents.
