I was on a server today and there was a player named FreeWikileaks. If you don't know or care what Wikileaks is and why he's saying to free it, this thread isn't going to be interesting to you.
If you do care, Wikileaks is a website that whistle blowers can use to publish incriminating evidence against people who would normally send hordes of lawyers after anyone trying to publish it. Such as government officials, military operations, or political decisions.
Wikileaks has always (to put it frankly) pissed some people off. But they've always been able to stand up to pressure to take documents down. Recently they've come under heavier fire than usual and a few groups are trying to actually sue them. So I thought, hey, I'll change my AC nick to FreeWikileaks too, which the other player didn't have a problem with.
So just saying, you should change your nick too for a while if you support Wikileaks and their mission of sorts to allow scandals to be exposed by everyday journalists and even insiders who dislike the wrongs being done.

Well, is not such a bad idea. Any effort is worth for freedom of information.
Apart from Clan ED, I administrate a community dedicated to STALKER and it's gaming universe called STALKERHispano. In that site, I've placed a banner directing to WikiLeaks IP, which links directly to it despite any DNS attack they may suffer. Feel free to use it

Anyway, is not a bad idea, I will add FreeWikileaks to my nick ;)

Bullpup ingame you were trolling around too. If you don't support WikiLeaks, then you don't support them. No need to call them a "pile of disinformation" like ingame or link to unrelated videos here.

I was inclined to agree with Bullpup. A players' feelings towards Wikileaks have no bearing on AC, so I moved the thread to offtopic.

It should work both ways and players who are neutral or don't care about this topic shouldn't be spammed in game. It is great to see that people find ways to show their support. But I think that they don't have to scream out loud all the time in game what others should change their names to. If you want to be respected then you have to respect other players too.

I suppose the newbies would get FreeWikileaks drilled into their head if
they get fragged by them a lot. No one said anything about spamming (or did they).

By spamming I meant that there are some players who are repeatedly writing in chat that everyone should change their names. But maybe it's only me who is annoyed by that, so peace everyone =)

Oh don't worry, I yell at the people who do that. It's just as annoying to me. I thank them for their support and tell them to kindly stfu.

I read about the guy who stole the documents. He has destroyed his life, the rest of his life he spend in a prison. Publishing documents which are private or signed as secret is not correct. I think it is illegal.
The problems created by them someone must fix. It costs money of all us. They only destroy, nothing constructive. I would like to see them how they do high politic and lead wars. They would be the same or worse. China or russia are else worse, everybody has his interests.

Yeah so since this thread has become a troll-fest can it be closed? I said what I wanted to say and I don't see any conversation coming out of this.
Oh and Alien, I'm curious where you read about the guy that stole the documents. I'm also wondering what guy and what documents, considering there are about nine thousand currently on the site. You may not be aware that those didn't all come from one source. Do a little research before you try to troll.

Lol, just for throwing my 2 cents off, but seriously, how do you pretend to be taken seriously by saying 'change your nickname to support Wikileaks'?
That's ridicolously pointless, government doesn't even know a game called AssaultCube exists, so how is it going to be useful.

According to a US lawyer, Glenn Greenwald, who use to work as a constitutional law and civil rights litigator, PUBLISHING CLASSIFIED INFORMATION in the UNITED STATES is NOT ILLEGAL. So let me get this straight, Alien, you are deciding after reading that (Wikipedia at that) article, that he was the sole person responsible for ever uploading anything to Wikileaks... Ok. I rest my case.

At the great risk of pissing a lot of people off: Does a RIP thread bring back someone from the dead? It's to show support for someone we all cared about, just like this is to show respect for a group of people I care about.

nope eftertanke, it is example how you can end if you will trust in his steps, Assagne will be in night news and you in prison with imaginary trust you did something for this world
Law is about interpretation, if someone is able to interpret US Law this way or such laws are missing there, there are still inner rules of organizations or companies and if publishing that materials can damage them, they can protect by the same law. Therefore we have lawyers for this job.
And if all methods fail, there is still human basic feeling which says "this is secret", this isn't for your personal blog. It is similar if i would publish logs of servers somewhere, it is against my personal feeling.

That has nothing to do with this thread. The things I support being published are laws being broken by people in high places, and that's what WIkileaks helps people publish.
The laws in place in the USA that you are talking about, are anti- espionage laws designed to keep US citizens from spying for enemy governments. Not to keep people in high places from getting in trouble for breaking the law by keeping what they did a secret. Seriously, quit flaming.
You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

eftertanke you obviously never had access to secret informations ...
For example: information about what US diplomacy thinks about russian president really helped US and especially casual citizen fighting for his justice. Continue in dreaming, man. :) I would support people who can rebuild system from inside and not people who are breaking all rules and damaging everything good what in the system was.

Alien your posts have now been reported. They have had nothing to do with this thread, which was purely informative and not intended to discuss people's opinions about Wikileaks or how it works.
As the OP says:
Quote:So just saying, you should change your nick too for a while if you support Wikileaks and their mission of sorts to allow scandals to be exposed by everyday journalists and even insiders who dislike the wrongs being done.
I would really appreciate this thread being closed now.
