In his (weak) defense, how are the NVidia drivers in Linux (proprietary or otherwise)? Although, it'd be pretty sad (and somewhat inexplicably miraculous) if AC ran better in Wine than it did in native Linux because of drivers. :S

All Wine does is doing the appropriate Linux stuff for all system and library calls the programs make. In this case, all OpenGL calls are forwarded to the natively installed OpenGL. So, Wine or not, the driver you have installed on Linux has to do the job.
