Camstudio or Microsoft Expression Encoder with Windows. I've had better experiences with the latter and it's what I made my joke bot vid with.
Also try hacking around with
Screenrecording with VLC.

I use Screenflow. My HI-SKILL vid was used with that and then edited with iMovie 10 so...
It's a little tricky to get the full screenflow version, since the full costs, [edited - The AC forum doesn't condone or support software piracy] ;)

Quicktime X is really bad...
It slows down the whole computer and the quality is bad... :(

I think the best solution is getting the demo and , after, play it and record it (you can do many things with a demo, change point of view, use it as a cam...). I would use iShowu (but you have to pay it, even if it is pretty cheap).

Before I downloaded Screenflow, I remember I tried Jing for recording AC, but regretted it for some reason :S
Try to record a game with Jing JGAN.

What is so bad with paying for software you really want/need? The only excuse I'd accept is if you don't have a credit card and if that's the only way to pay for it. In that case, use free software instead, goddamit.
