What's the use of donating platelets? I thought there were parts of cells that are dead. What's their purpose?

Platelets are cells that help heal you. So they help scab over. Not exactly sure of the function, but they either form the scab, or actually heal underneath the scab.

What's the use of donating platelets?

Some people have platelet deficiencies which I think is caused by the bone marrow not producing enough new cells to replenish the blood cells. I think they are also used during serious surgical procedures.

For example, hiding behind any box in AC will stop the bleeding.
A well placed teammate can help you to stop the bleeding.
"Hit-reg" issue could be considered as a valuable way of stop the bleeding.
