Ive never watched Dr who, whats it about?

Short version: A madman in a blue box.

Long version: An alien (a 'Timelord' called 'The Doctor') who has a machine called a TARDIS, which he uses to travel in space & time and he pretty much saves the galaxy from all sorts of weird shit. It's been around since 1963, so it's got a solid fan base by now.

Oh, and the monsters. Mustn't forget the monsters. There's:
* Daleks, imagine hitler, but alien form, they like to 'exterminate' anyone that's not a Dalek:


* Cybermen, basically Man tried to live forever by putting themselves into a steel robot suit, only to loose all their emotions. Cybermen, as such, try to turn you into a Cyberman 'or you will be deleted':


* Weeping Angels, okay, so, you see these statues, but when you're not looking, they move. They're impossible to destroy and even at a blink of an eye they move quickly (DON'T BLINK). They like to kill you either by snapping your neck, or throwing you back in time over and over and over so that you die from old age. These are a fairly new character, so I suspect we'll learn more of their abilities:

Another interesting fact, that hijacker is still unknown 27 years later. :D

Going back to The Doctor, I found it hard to understand a lot of his lines, which is odd considering he was supposed to be speaking English; the delivery wasn't always great. They also seemed to want to make a big deal of his age (relative to the last one), which had better stop because I don't ever recall a big thing being made about the regen.
I'm not even a huge fan. I only watch it because my eldest likes it....and for Clara, of whom there was a lot, which was almost the right amount.

Can't wait. While I'll miss Matt Smith like crazy I am super excited for Capaldi. As for the Weeping Angels I didn't know about the neck snap, I thought all they were interested in was living off all the years a victim would have lived. Who would have thunk the Silence were actually legit good guys though? I mean daaaaaaaaamn did NOT see that coming. Interesting possibility... A female Doctor in the future? As for the Timelords... when will they come through that tear and begin the war afresh? Would love to legitimately MEET another Timelord other than the Doctor... perhaps even another Tardis.

I feel like they were trying too hard to transition us to the new Doctor. I suspect the next episode might be OK because of this. The age thing is certainly cringe worthy. It should've really just been more like "Oh, hello doctor", then done.

They've certainly done a better job of transitioning in the past (Matt Smith.. fish fingers and custard!)

I love the concept of weeping angels, so because of this (HERACY), I must say I enjoy them more than Daleks, etc.

Yeah, I think it was the whole astronaut thing. It's worth saying that I missed an episode which I don't think helped. Either way I'll probably attempt to catch up again sometime in the next year.
Also, Blink is one of the best things I have ever seen period.

I believe it was in the Trenzalore bit where it was discovered that the Silence are the priests so to speak of the different Orders, my memory is vague right now tbh, no cable and no BBC make Kell a dull boy, and the Silence that were hunting the Doctor were part of a rogue Order trying to stop him from finding the other Timelords. I did like meeting the Tardis. "Hey sexy." My first course of action once I get the chance is to start buying Seasons. I'll be starting with Matt Smith to flesh him out completely but I've been warned not to skip the Ninth Doctor, Mr. Ecclestan. Did you see the Impossible Girl one? Oh goodness!! That's a timey-wimey mindflip in a half. Remember how Amy and Rory got taken by the Weeping Angels? Well if you closely in the first episode,

"Well?" The Doctor smiles with anticipation. "It's smaller on the outside!" Clara exclaims. "Ah... I've never heard that one before."

Clara's grandmother is wearing the same ring that Amy always wore! Just where in time did those Angels drop her? ;)

Eccleston > Tennant > Smith

Others may put Tennant first and Eccleston last. But as good as Smith is, he'll never be as good as Tennant, that is for sure.

Start with Eccleston. You get to see the earth die (2nd episode). Also, first episode has mannequins killing people - it's worth it, start there! Plus, they poke fun of Brittany Spears.

Eccleston is a bit darker, less forgiving (personality-wise) than the other Doctor's - that's why I like him.

I myself, have not bothered with any Doctors prior to the reboot (Eccleston). Not worth my time imo - to me, it would feel like watching Black & White (vs HD these days) and would ruin it for me. Besides, it rare for them to significantly reference a pre-reboot episode in later episodes.

I've decided to give these new episodes ago, figuring maybe I would like Dr Who without Matt Smith. I have understood jacks hit of every episode I've seen so far apart from the good dalek one. However I'm still bemused by the scene where the doctor and the dalek link minds - how and why did that happen?
The only logical conclusion is that the writing is simply beyond human comprehension, but presumably not that of a kiwi. Take last night's episode's for example, I was lost before the first 5 minutes. You'd have to go back to the much maligned Love & Monsters before I could say I had an episode figured out.

Note how it says "revived only" (A.K.A: The reboot since 2005 only) is only 3 days, 3 hours - it's worth it. Like I mentioned, wouldn't bother with pre-reboot myself.

I just have trouble following the plot is the main problem. I don't seem to understand how time works in Dr Who anymore. When I used to watch it, from when the first episode was shown with Ecclestone to about 2 seasons in to Tennant's doctor, I understood all of almost every episode. A rare exception being the Madame de Pompadour episode, or at least the end of it. I even used to collect the Battles in Time trading cards.
The point is episodes seem to have gotten a lot more complicated since those days, going off snippets of Matt Smith episodes I've seen and the latest season so far, and I just can't follow anything anymore. Do you agree, is that the case? Or am I just going senile in my young age.
