NZ's is generally better...

However, I live on an island, where my closest neighbours are across hundreds of km's of ocean. In otherwords, my ping to anyone overseas, isn't good. Feel better now?

16 Mb/s Down, 1.0+ up (I would get a pic but I'm lazy atm).

I sync at 19Mbps which is better than 80 percent of aussie ADSL users.

Can you all please get your stats out of your modem directly. God damn speed tests.

At&t should not be internet providers. I dont know how many of you americans here have been following the debates about net neutrality, but they (and other large companies) are just trying to find ways to make the standards even slower.

I remember the days of 56k (im not that old) and then cable modems and DSL. Then fibre came to us and was great. It's a sad state of affairs when the highest bidder can afford to have mediocre speeds, but in contrast seem lightning fast to the peasants. Soon we'll be paying the same for throttled speeds. It's not capitalism when established giants corner the market and then only compete with each other. Fucking disgusting.

I have GayT&T and it's disgusting. Aside from dropping connections several times a day (at times I can't play my PS3 online because it keeps signing me out) I get ~1Mb down and a fraction of that up >:( online competitive play is frustrating as other players have connection advantage.

Some modems aren't always accurate, e.g (mine):
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1.144 / 16.798

Lel, nah, I just took that at work when I was at AT&T. Obviously there's no getting that on a residential AT&T connection.

Not me. I use a small ISP (the fastest internet i can get for my area, no DSL even. I use a wireless ISP and i get low latency and no caps.

I'd hardly call 23ms to a local server "low". Any decent ISP should really be giving you around 10ms to any local server, regardless of what your DL/UL speed is. Sadly there's a shortage of decent ISP's in the UK, especially where I live. :/

EDIT: 50 miles counts as local but yeah I take your point :D

Vanquish, my isp is wireless, not wired. That's why I have a ping of 23ms, and the server's like 50 miles away

You get a choice of crappy internet from AT&T, having your wallet accosted by Comcast, or getting sad/slow wireless from some 3rd party out in the middle of nowhere.

Conclusion: Jg99 should move to provo

Something something divide the Attenuation or SNR. I forget.

This is my "Speed Test" to a Node server, which is owned by iiNet which is my ISP:

These are the direct stats from my modem (RK, mine don't need extra math):

To a quick aussie server I can download at 2.1 MBps, and I average sync at around ~19900Mbps, in this picture it is a bit lower today ahaha.

Speed tests are unreliable, have overheads and generally the servers they connect to arn't the best as well.
