Australian Server [SUGGESTIONS]
#1
Good afternoon AC forumers.

I wish to host an Australian based server for all the Australian players out there and I'm curious about a few things.

Where are the majority of the Australian AC players situated? You do not have to be specific, just Northen, Southern, Easten and Westen Region is fine.

I would also like suggestions for map rotates and game types and if it'll be worth it running the server 24/7 or just peak times?

Anyways if you could give me some suggestions, maybe we'll get another great public server available for the Australian/Kiwi players free from lag. :)

THANKS!

When I hosted my ausD servers, the majority were from over east and your best bet would be Sydney or Melbourne hosting mate.

24/7 hosting is good, people like Undead dont sleep.

I would have one or two 24/7 pubs, and at least one match (24/7).

AC servers don't take up too many resources, and it seems like you are thinking about buying a VPS or something, so its not a hassle at all.

That's correct, VPS based in Sydney; however bandwidth from a Sydney hosted server can be very expensive, which is my only concern.

Just out of curiosity, do you know how much one hosted server would take with regards to ram/processing power, I can't seem to find any reccomended specs for servers, While I'm certain I have ample resources, I would like to know as I could in the long run cut my costs :)

Appreciate youre replies and I'll be sure to let you guys know when I've set them up ^_^

My experience is ~25MB RAM and negligible CPU usage (~0.2% on a Xeon 3.2GHz). Bandwidth is the biggest killer. There's a chart here, which is out of date. It's thought the figures are now lower than these, but no-one's tested it.

If you want my advice, I ran a website and 3 pubs and 2 match servers (with help) off of the Essential VDSL-1 package located at http://www.exigent.com.au/hosting/vdsl-e...t-features for 25 bucks a month.

In all honesty, we need ausD back.

interesting, i used the exact same provider at one stage and the ac server seemed to crash once every 10 minutes

Did you have your server(s) set up right? I had almost no downtime.
