Old joke. I used to tell people to "Press F1 for Dragon Platebody!"

Firstly, I find that hard to believe :P

Secondly, that site you uploaded to gave me a German (I think) pop-up that pwned my browser when I tried to close it.

I upload images to PostImage.

Then you copy the direct link and paste it between [img][/img] tags and you won't have to go to an external site to view the image at its intended size.

Thanks!

Maybe he wrote /kick [cn] "[SPACE][SPACE][SPACE][SPACE][SPACE]F1 for free porn"

Like he just pressed the SPACE-button a few times

devs should code it to remove whitespace at the beginning of the reason arg, and possibly a large limit on the length

What would be a sensible length limit in your opinion? 35? Or might that be too short in some cases, or is it too much already?

/kick 3 "no kill in gema, please; also: teamkiller, offensive, vote abuser, chat spam, voicecom spam, please uninstall"

Thats 111, and its used on a daily basis... XD
Im also sure there are more reasons that could make it in the vote...

With such reasons, you're already quite close to the current limit of 128 characters ;D

I think white-space is easy enough to remove.
No need for a short character limit since that would truncate legitimate reasons.

Yeah, well, but next thing people will do is using dots instead. Makes next to no difference if you ask me.

Well, I think AC could remove all the repeat characters (3+ chars get removed) if you wanted. AC could use a little more intelligent coding.

I sorta don't think they'd use any character if it were visible -- if I am perceiving it right, the novelty of it is that the prompt seems to appear in the middle of the screen, because of non-visible characters.

Personally I would just condense white space and go from there (Not that this happens often anyway)

Coding the condensation of multiple repeated character sequences, with the raised objection of people "creatively" circumventing limitations in mind, may be a waste as the possibilities are quite endless -- e.g:

legitimate_reason.+._.=+.-_.=+_.=_+.-=_=_-=spam_message_here
No repeated sequences, even without spaces.

A possible solution (also limiting however) is to remove certain characters (!@#$%^&*_+-=,./?':;~`)

Though really, as I said before, I believe without the novelty of non-visible characters this problem wouldn't exist very widely.

I have to agree with you there. (About "the novelty of non-visible characters")

instead of a char limit, how about start a new line once the text exceeds a certain length, so all the text is there but it stays over on the side of your screen.

That's an interesting idea. We'd have to check the length of each word/phrase though so as not to split a word in half -- unless the word/phrase itself is over the limit, and add a hyphen in such cases.

But what about the screen real estate?

The hud does have a fair amount of items, and more clutter would just make it harder to use/make.

I'm not understanding what you are saying here, but I can tell you believe this "max-width" idea conflicts with... something.

Quote:the novelty of it is that the prompt seems to appear in the middle of the screen, because of non-visible characters
I think that's the key. Needing to have visible characters to achieve this essentially ruins the effect. With the effect ruined, there's no reason for people to do it (it just won't look good like it does in the screenshot).

Sorry, my brain has been better at writing python than english lately.

If it extends too far down, then it can collide. Not sure if this would affect screens with different resolutions. Personally I dont like cluttered HUD's.
