Open Source Multiplayer

Is the open source build restricted from the Master Server?

Until recently I had only been using the regular download. After finding out that there was an open source version, I was just doing some reticule editing for personal preference and all of the sudden I can't connect to any servers. I understand the reasoning, and modded reticules really isn't a huge deal, but I wasn't sure if there was any way to connect with the open source version.

Anyways, very low priority but I would like to know if there's any way to connect with it.

You can play on a modded client. When did you start this source modifying?

We will wait for the CBL gods to give us an answer about if you are banned.

I've PM'd Hallinskide about this. He/she was innocently caught in a range ban for the player in these posts (all the same player):

For clarity:
Feel free to play on a modded client, but give it a negative protocol number and don't take it onto public servers.
And feel free to share the code modifications in case others want to try it out on a test server. :D

For more clarification:
Change the protocol number if your mod changes gameplay. Things like rearranging HUD, backports from the SVN, shouldn't need a protocol number.
Remember, your not the one who chooses what changes gameplay or not :3

I was about to say this too RR. As a game with open source principles at heart, AC welcomes coders who want to modify the source to suit their own requirements or additions/improvements, provided those modifications do not change the gameplay or introduce other advantages over players using the default binaries.

As it turns out, this guy is going to be banned for cheating in the next few minutes. I'll post a link to the blacklist entry when I do it. http://forum.cubers.net/thread-543-post-...l#pid75483

IDK; you help someone out and this is how they repay you. :|

o.O what? Open-source means everyone has access to the source code, and that doesn't mean it's hidden :D

I'll leave this thread open due to the fact that there may be questions about modifying the code, what to do and what not to do.

While basically pertaining to Sauerbraten (Cube2) it's still a good rundown on proper procedures for AssaultCube modding too: CubeWiki: Modding Guide.
