Error when launching [Sens_oal.dll]
#1
I have just recently setup a new computer I have just reinstalled AssaultCube.
AssaultCube was fine for the first few times I launched the application but now I am currently getting an error.

I have not installed any custom scripts, mods or anything of that nature it is still the default installation.

The error I am getting is:

For search puporse here is the text format
AssaultCube: ac_client.exe - Bad Image
C:\Windows\system32\Sens_oal.dll is either not designed to run on
Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using
the orignal installation media or contact your system administrator or
the software vendor for support.

So I reinstalled both OpenAL and AssaultCube.
With no success I am still getting the above error.
I have ensured my drivers for my graphic card are up to date.
If I close the error and wait around 5 minutes it loads AssaultCube.

Could anyone suggest anything to try.

Please find below a copy of my computer specs:

MrAnderson Wrote:Hi Freddo,

I guess you have already looked on your system for Sens_oal.dll, you should of found two instances one in windows system and the other in the 64 bit folder. I reakon one of these is corrupt, I would take a copy of each of them and use each one to replace the other in turn (do one at a time) then try running AC after each replacement.

Let me know if this works as it relates to something else I am working on and it would be good to know it sorted it.

Freddo Wrote:Yes I noticed that. I wasn't sure if that was correct or not as I don't know how OpenAL works correctly or installs.

I just tried your suggestion but that didn't work.

Does anyone else have an idea?

Just to be sure, what OpenAL installer did you use?

Good question...

http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/default.aspx

I believe that is the site I got it from.

It's weird, because I don't even have that file.
You could actually try just renaming it and see what happens. Most likely, you'll get an error when running AC, but maybe not.

I value your input Alien but please read through my whole post first before posting.

I tried that it came up with the same error.

I then removed it from there and it still came up with the same error.
So I am still lost on what to do.

So the same error as if the file was there normally?

Maybe Tempest's file is named differently.

Well, but that shouldn't have any impact on what happens when he deletes it from his computer ;)

@Freddo: that's really strange, especially because it does work after some time...

It's okay I can live with it.

Is there any information you require to try and takle this error?
I find if I set it to window mode it doesn't take as long to load.

I could still tell you a few things to try, but those are just shots in the dark.
What happens if you copy ct_oal.dll (if you have it somewhere, otherwise you could even try OpenAL.dll) and rename it to Sens_oal.dll?
Oh, and did you have an X-Fi audio card at some time?

It came with the new computer.

I have no idea. I just saw that this google search brings up quite a few issues people had with that audio card and OpenAL.
