Global Ideas...

Let me introduce this thread...I made this thread today because I wanted to see, who cared about the 'problems' that many of us face today, not AssaultCube problems but real life problems...Problems like, global warming, habitat destruction and extinction...

Now I know their are different 'sides' to this topic and I don't want to start a flamewar here... And please hold the 'You hippie! Comments back'

Here's my idea:

I think that this mess that the world is into right now is our fault and we have to clean it up...If we don't problems will start sprouting. One problem is this '2012 indecent' as I do not believe in 2012 (judging like its some kind of religion.) You're probably asking yourself, whats 2012 have to do with anything? Well, its effecting our minds, not physically but mentally...We are to focused on 'what if 2012 happens, then what' and least focused on things that are bound to happen, extinction of animals, un-purified oxygen etc. I say we remove our heads from this trance we call '2012' (no offense.) and do something about it....

So yeah, please post your ideas and thoughts over in this thread and I'm sorry if I offended anyone

The mess we're in? What mess is that? And I don't believe 2012 "theories" have any relevance.

First off, this thread couldn't be named more misleading. Secondly, I am not coming in here for feeding apocalyptic-BS-theorists...

Discuss this kind of matter anywhere else, please.

I believe in 2012.
I believe we'll all sort of look around at each other and shrug when the year ends with no more disaster than any other year.
However, I believe we should immediately start quoting the Tao Te Ching.
Quote:What others say, I say too:
Tyrants and flamers don't die natural deaths.
I make this the foundation of my doctrine.

I think we should be worried about http://www.helium.com/items/1882339-doom...ling-event before we start worrying about things we've not to worry about. :D

LOL!
Never heard about the entire planet FARTING.
Still, I'd say it would be a good thing to "prematurely release" this methane bubble, if it exists. We certainly could use a massive alternative energy source, and even if it all detonates, it couldn't be big enough to cause a mass extinction.

heh.
It's on the helium website, but the article is about methane.

Don't believe articles that have no reliable sources. This one has none.
Although it's a terrible environmental catastrophy what is happening in the gulf at the moment, and there is also methane being dissolved into the water in large quanities, there is no reliable information that a big eruption of a methane bubble is to be feared. (only on dubious sites).

2012: Were the mayans around these days, you know what they'd do? Start a new calender, just like you go buy a new calender in december...

The only thing to be feared around 2011/12 would be a magnetic sunstorm, but that danger is recurring every 11 years. A huge storm might put us back into the middle ages for a couple of decades, wich wouldn't be the end of the world, but certainly the end of AC :P

The biggest problem on this dirtball inhabited by mentally diseased apes is modern capitalism. It fucks up everything.

It is the system which has been developing from the middle age by natural process. Other artificial systems created by very clever people with purpose to involve dissatisfied part population of the system only improves the capitalism itself. 40 years of comunism in my country was enough to discover that it doesn't work. Switzerland is the richest country in the world thanks this system.

ps.sry i had to react, my carma goes to bigger shit here :D

I wasn't saying there was better system (or even that there have been better ones) - but I doubt that mindless consumerism on the one hand, and relentless profit-only oriented corporate business on the other will last much longer - the current system is bound to fail one day.
Imho there must be a form of democratic capitalism that is also fair and benevolent to everyone. But this will never have a chance as long as the world is ruled by greedy businessmen, and everyone else is dreaming of becoming one. Democracy is inexsistent. It's all just cryptocracy, all over.

The problem is that everyone has his inner "greedy businessman".

I, for one, am sick of a country that calls itself capitalist when it's really socialist.
:/
A socialist republic, didn't the US have a cold war with one of those a couple decades ago? I wonder who won...

In my opinion, Athens during the Age of Pericles (a.k.a. the golden ages) was easily the best system and least corrupt while still being harsh in punishment. If you read some of the things Pericles says, it's amazing how simple minded and uncaring with regards to our country he makes us look, more so our politicians (this applies to everyone).

http://wsu.edu/~dee/GREECE/PERICLES.HTM Try taking a look at that, Ancient Greece's version of the Gettysburg Address.

And the methane article was more or less a joke thrown at Ghost so he could shut up about 2012 :D Oh conspiracy theorists.

@ V-Man: Srsly. Luckily, I don't think we're having another cold war soon. Although we're psuedo-Capitalist, the difference between now and Soviet Russia in the 1940's when the cold war had its inception broils down to manpower and weapons of mass pwnage. No one wants to start something with us, or any other nuclear power.

Stupid consumers and producers is common process in nature.
Your are right that democracy is utopia in capitalism because first choice is made by the system and then you can choose if you will go with the system or against. Then you must be very strong to change the direction of the whole system. But i think this natural principle never end. It is similar as in swarm of birds, you must be very extra if you wanna fly other direction.
In financial system is the quickest evolution on this planet. The fight is often made by algorithms. I know many people who lost huge money during the last crisis. I don't want their life. :)
In certain angle of view is aristocracy the sign of success.

Periodically some alleged prophecies of extinct peoples are making the round. Isn't it astonishing how mighty and stupid at the same moment these prophets have been? They are able to describe nothing less than the destruction of the world at some remote future date and are blind for their own extinction in the near history?

Well, it doesn't matter. These "prophecies" are products of sick minds who are
a) totally bored,
b) a bit paranoid (but not in the same way as the followers of conspiracy theories are) or/and
c) in the belief, that everything is predestined and therefore inalterable.

Well, if you also think you are (now) part of c) then please do as a favor and commit suicide - you have wasted enough time in thinking about having a free will (don't forget everything is predestinated anyway - like wars, natural disasters, personal misfortune, the asteroid which impacts in front of your house tomorrow). [sounds like sarcasm? it is]

Whatever - If we have nothing better to do like talking about whatever happened in two years and giving the blame for this (totally unknown but of course serious) disaster almost to everyone (the neighbour, human mankind, god, aliens) except ourselves (of course) then we haven't real problems I guess.

You know what I think the real 2012 disaster is? That Palin will run for office.

I also believe that we will have a HUGE # of babies born in September of 2013.
