Unfortunately, I think that no matter what their original motivations were, it usually comes down to being able to do nothing else. That seems to result in some serious control issues and insecurity in their authority. :/

In a surprisingly small number, you are correct. However, I should point out that I have had many very skilled and friendly teachers who seem to have been born for their job, if you know what I mean.
