Why does everyone have secret nickname?

Usually one of three reasons, or a combination of them:
1) They do not wish for people to swarm them with requests for matches
2) They are about to engage in some mischief
3) They are not proud of their name / clan

When I play with my real nick, everyone wants to show me maps, so I play with secret names :P

I changed my alias because I had been a dick to a bunch of people. Simple as that. It eventually got out, but by that time I'd grown the grapes I needed to admit the mistakes I'd made and keep on rolling.

I use a different name in-game. But that's so that people don't know who I am if I'm on my server. It makes life a little more pleasant for everyone.

1) Scouting potential Clan mates
2) Play well and get challenged by some random new clan that claim they can destroy you, then play them... win and get called a hacker...
3) not to get swarmed with requests
4) follow suspicious players
5) playing pranks on other clan mates.

I don't use aliases for the most part. I like representing my clan throughout a server more than beating up on unsuspecting players and pretending to be "new"

I use an alias on my own servers to stop people behaving because there is an admin there. People tend to be reckless when its just them.

if i get a 1v1 challenge i normally say no. Then again, i'm not that famous.
