A tip for the self-learning of those programs...
I don't have any knowledge in how to use either of them, but I'm sure you can find plenty of help from Youtube :)

I think many are just tired of seeing some questions asked. Some are too harsh (I admit I usually forget to assume good faith before I respond).

Elven

If you choose to download blender there is a tutorial that is at the site, as well as a link to a good wiki "blender3d noob to pro". hope this helps.

as to how hostile the forums are getting, some of us are noobs, and not all of us have the capacity to search through all of the threads. therefore we are only asking some of the same questions as asked before. as a 42 year old i can relate to how some of you feel about reasking questions, however we are only asking because we see the work you do and respect it enough to ask you for some kind advice. so forgive us sometimes when we seem to dense to understand what you already know.
thanks.

I think I just come up with a candidate for the new 1 minute warning music in AC.. inspired by this thread no less:
Proposed new AC music

And if you're under the age of 18 then click this link instead.

No biggie :) The people who make an account, ask three questions that have been answered time and time again, and are never heard from again are the ones that really bother me /argh

These may help get you started.

- For Blender tutorials: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=basic+blender+tutorials
- For GIMP tutorials: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=basic+GIMP+tutorials

There you go, I saved you some time. I look forward to seeing any models you make if you decided to make them. Thank me later! :P

I told u to get gimp!

I think it's just great how I ask a very specific modeling question in the modding section and receive a degrading "lmgtfy" response and a threadlock, but people can make dozens of threads exactly like this that could be answered via ten seconds on google and receive no problems.
