Stanko: Really nice. I would so mess up the neck and fretwork, I don't even have an idea what tools I'd need. I really like that finish. Very nice inlays too. Is that master volume and tone, or two volumes? Or stacked stuff?
Explorers sure look cool, but they feel weird to play to me.

Pakit: How would you tap this? You can "tap" it with the slide, but I wouldn't use the word tapping for it. By my definition, tapping needs frets or a fretboard to hit the string down on. Something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huWju0Ntn5g

I was afraid to do the peghead like in the guide, because it's only a pine plank, I doubt it would have stood the pull. And after I came up with my tuner-mounts, it looked rough, so I went with that theme and didn't bother to carve out a control cavity. Carving out the pickup cavity with nothing but a drill was hard enough.

Very cool, makke. I'm looking to build my own stuff soon after college... for now, just looking to get a telecaster for the new band. Crapcaster's a fitting name, I suppose? :P

Good choice. Telecasters are just great working guitars. Simple and sturdy, no bullshit (silly tremolos or too many sound options). :)

Have a look at squier then. At the moment they produce great instruments for the price, if you buy anything above their "affinity" series.

Nah, a bit higher end but not killing the budget. Atm I'm on a Gibson SG Standard, but it doesn't give me anything a nice single coil instrument could provide. I just need a funky jam tool d: Being a poor college student takes its tolls. May I ask your setup, makke?

My bass is a Squier Classic Vibe 50'ies, ran through a Yorkville 200 watt combo.

When I played guitar, I had a MIA Tele made in 1999 through an old Fender Top - can't remember the name now, but it was awesome, from the 70ies. I wish I still had those.

In that budget range you speak of, you should be able to get a real fine instrument.

I have always loved telecasters for their simplicity first, tone second, although my tele had an unusually warm tone. It was awesome, really. "Funky Jam Tool" sounds like tele style though :)

Never was a fan of Gibson guitars, maybe because I am more of a rythm player when it comes to guitar. 4 knobs is already too much for me :P

If I could have my own tele built today, it would probably be just the bridge pickup and a volume pot :P

congrats i dream to make one for me :s i just start to have look on information i can get on the subject,but lot of toolsare required :s (in what i saw here and there).

do you know any DIY forum or website?

for the momment i build some valve pedal,preamp and amplifier (50's to 70's clones) ;) less tools required ;) (will post soon any pictures of them ;) ) if someone is interested i can post some usefull links to learn it ;)

For sound samples, you'll have to wait for the next week. I'll be going to a friend who has bit better recording equipment than I do. There is a tone of sustain :)

Final costs are about 1000e, and all the wood and hardware is top of the class, and also I payed friend for painting and neck. :)

All in all, I'm really happy about it... :)
For sure I'll be making some more, but this time I'll wait till I get my own workshop.
