We really need more details here, Tyler.

OS?
Where did you download from?
What happens when you try to open AC?
Why do you think it isn't working?
Are you sure you are download the current version (1.1.0.3)?

This isn't a protocol update. This is a version update. The new version (1.1.0.3) has a new protocol, which is why all servers made from 1.1.0.3 appear as "newer protocol" in 1.1.0.2.

I'm guessing his computer is strong enough. It is very hard to get a computer that is too weak.

I have Windows 2000.
I downloaded from http://assault.cubers.net/ which leads to
http://sourceforge.net/projects/actionga...e/download
This happens when I try to open it.

Tyler can you please check if the ac_client.exe in c:\Program Files\AssaultCube_1.1.0.3\bin_win32 folder has a valid icon.
Tell what size it is in KBs.

I strongly suspect something is altering the file and corrupting.

Or download from here
http://sourceforge.net/projects/actionga...e/download
Oh and poke around your hdd mainly my computer c:/program files/
and delete any folder with assault cube in the title :/
Then download and install from the above..
If that don't work, then post back again :/
Though check eynstynes idea first ^.^

... the problem is simple. Your system doesn't allow you to access that file. You need read/write/execute access to those files.

(don't ask me how, windows is annoying so I use linux when possible)

I'm able to access all the files in my PC.

That doesn't mean AC can.

True.

If the file size is exactly the same as I expect, it is a permission snafu.
I have seen this before, manual denying permission via cacls usually happens if another program has done so. Are there any other files on your computer that suffer from this problem?

Solution, read my post about cacls. It is the access control list changer
If you can figure it out, ull have AC back up

semi-trolling here... lol

(22 Oct 10, 03:35AM)eynstyne Wrote: Run cmd
cd \Program Files\AssaultCube_1.1.0.3\bin_win32\
cacls /g <YourUserName>:f ac_client.exe
cacls /g everyone:f ac_client.exe

If it is a permission problem, that will give it full control and should run.

cmd-command prompt
cd-goto/find directory
cacls-yes/no
rm-remove
sudo-root
mkdir-create directory
ftp-file transfer protocol
bat-batch file
echo-repeat text
print-repeat text (python)
#!/bin/sh-shell script for linux and stuff
exe-executable

Go to Start Menu-> Run

Paste this : cacls "C:\Program Files\Assaultcube_1.1.0.3\bin_win32\ac_client.exe" /g everyone:f
Paste this : cacls "C:\Program Files\Assaultcube_1.1.0.3\bin_win32\ac_server.exe" /g everyone:f
Hit Enter...

When black box comes up, press Y
Go run assaultcube...

Do the same with any files that are denying u access, just replace the path with the path to the other program

Hope this helps

Well, I couldn't figure what this meant... here are my thoughts

1. Run AC
2. Access drive C: and put codes in file
3. Look for a "RUN" button
and 4. Do all of the above...

Which did you mean?

wait, nvm, i found the "run"

After that, the icon will appear?

Wait, I still did as you said and it still WOULDN'T open.
