Yes it can be done in two ways and the most easy for you and anyone else is just to convert the red_dot.png from 24bpp to 32bpp, that is, you need to add the alpha channel. How? Well, in Gimp, open up red_dot.png, select menu Colors->Color to Alpha, select black color, save as png and that's it.
