if you don't think advertisement for paid services is appropriate under any circumstances, then why give yourselves the power to allow it? all you're doing is setting a dangerous precedent

Don't be mistaken, this like many online communities is not a democracy.
The reason this rule is in effect is to prevent people from trying to sell a scam on the forums. Now, he probably isn't trying to scam, but he still didn't get permission.
