That happens sometimes. It's a known bug that has been around for years.
I'm not sure if it's the math that is off or a network problem but it is possible to shoot through the corners of walls. AFAIK it can't be done at will, it seems to happen randomly.
It can only cut a small amount off the wall so the "advantage" is extremely low. In fact you can see farther around the wall using maxroll so if you're concerned about that <1% of shots that cut corners turn maxroll up to 20.
For the record, if a game winning shot(Or any shot for that matter) cuts the corner I've always counted it. The issue is bound to come up.
