You have to remember that Cube 1 maps aren't truly 3D. Consequently, all rendering and lighting are horizontally oriented. As a result, you get all sorts of ugly glitches on those high maps.
TBH, I personally don't care about map restrictions, so don't ask me for anything but the technical motivation ;)
