right, but most maps have short to medium hallways, not open areas. when you round the corner and there is a shotgun sticking in your face, you are dead meat (unless they are a crappy player). This is how it should be. What shouldn't be happening is when you are in a medium length corridor (sides of ac_shine, for example) and a shotgun player pops out at the other end from you. even if you kill him, which you probably will if you are using AR, carbine, or sniper, he will be able to inflict a lot of damage. while this may be more realistic, it doesn't do much for the balance of the game. IMO, the shotgun should be the gun version of the knife, with one hit kill power at < 8 cubes, two hit kill power at 8< x < 16 cubes, and then dropping exponentially from there, to make it basically useless at anything more than 24 cubes.
