A good way to word it is, "Are less/more lines of screen real-estate worth it, just in case it goes over the six line threshold?"

I agree that for the MOTD to be useful it's length should be less than six lines or the default console size increased. Perhaps a pop-up notification could be added in addition to or in place of the console message?

EDIT: I wonder how much the current interface could be overhauled before people started hating it... I have ideas but I'm too busy to pull them out of my head and put them here. I move into my new apartment on Wednesday.
