I do not know how up-to-date this is but have a look: Linux Support - AssaultWiki
A good guide that helped me earlier: guides:64bit:assultcube [LxGC -- Linux Gamers Codex]
A bit out of date, but you just change version numbers and stuff.
You do not need to install Assaultcube on Ubuntu.
Just extract the tar.bz file and run assaultcube.sh
I have made a «.game» folder in «Home».
In this i have extracted Assaultcube and added to panel the assaultcube.sh file.
Command: /home/username/.games/1.1.0.4/assaultcube.sh
Edit: Try dropping the «assaultcube.sh» file in a Terminal and see what errors you get.
