Gravity doesn't pull us South. It pulls us down. What is down? It is the center of mass (generally) of the largest effective mass in the system. For us, this is Earth. Gravity pulls us towards the center of the Earth because although the sun does have an effect, it is largely negligible. Why is the sun not an effective mass?
