i still don't get the point of this feature

This is exactly why the total thanks given/received is hidden, as predicted from someone earlier, so that people don't go like whoring so badly. SKB is a noob though.

But the thanks button is like the +1 reply to posts so that people don't actually reply with +1. It helps keep empty posts down I suppose and it's just a fun little feature for the easily amused to run away with, so long as it isn't abused or exploited again...
