I had this problem a while back and I spent days messing around with firewalls and was almost at the point of giving up.
First check that your firewall is not blacking the range.
Personally if I was you I would not go down the road of forward porting.
I re installed assaultcube after removing the existing one.
and you can re install openal etc.
sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2debian libsdl-image1.2 zlib1g libogg0 libvorbis0a libopenal1 libcurl3
I then navigated to the shell of Assaultcube and created a link to my desktop
It works fine for me.
I use Linux btw so it is probs easier in windows.
