The banner should be surounded with a black background because the edges of the picture is black (probably because the original picture or website was mainly black). If not, you must fix the edges and use a brighter colour for it.
The mackground picture should not be so uge if a mosaic is needed, or just use a single colour so that it won't affect people with different screen sizes.
Focus white, black and shades of grey for the alternative colours (everything except the red).
