Can not switch to 'active mode' (newbie)

I'm having a problem, whenever I connect to some server to play, i always enter in 'spect' (ghost) mode, and can hardly play ...
can anyone help me?

i'm using a mac version of the sw

I had this problem with another player on IRC two days ago. We kept telling the guy to click his mouse button, which he said he was doing. To cut what could be a long story short, he wasn't clicking his mouse button.

There should definitely be a more obvious message in ghost that tells you how to spawn other than "DON'T PANIC!".
