Happy New Year everyone :) This interview is about Martijn, an 18 year old player from the Netherlands. He's 1.96m tall and currently a member of .rC| (rising Cubers). He plays AC since December 2007 but he took some breaks.
1) Over here in Germany, we make New Year's resolutions and ask others what they want to change or improve on. Is that also common in Holland? If so, did you make any New Year's resolutions and do you think you're going to be able to comply with them?
We have New Year's resolutions yes, but I have made none as I know I am probably not able to comply with them. I tried it last year, but I failed.
2) You've two brothers. One of them also plays AC, he's known as "RikPik". He made a break but recently came back and is apping to B} atm. Since he's younger than you I believe he got to know the game because of you, right?
Yeah he is apping to B}. And he is indeed younger than me, though he found out about AC before me. He played it for like 3 months i believe and then he showed me the game and I started to play it too, so in this case, the younger one shows the older one. My other brother plays ac like twice every month, only playing some pubs, not competitive at all.
3) What do you like about AC? What changes / additions to the game would you like to see being added in the future?
I like the gameplay, the different modes, the community. In my opinion its a really nice free game. I have played intense matches which I really enjoyed, but I have also played relaxed pubs. It depends on my mood what I like to play, but thats the great thing about AC, you have all kinds of modes you can choose from. And I also have a lot of fun browsing this forum. An addition I'd like to see being added would be a singleplayer campaign. It just adds something nice to a game. Maybe create a campaign, and when you finish the campaign, you are able to play multiplayer.
4) What is your favorite weapon in Assault Cube, and why?
My favorite weapon is also my most hated weapon, the shotgun. I only like it when I´m playing with it. In pubs the weapon is just annoying, you walk around a corner and splat, ur dead. In inters though it is a really great weapon if you know how to handle it in certain maps. I have a shotgun montage coming soon so you guys will see some nice action!
5) What is your favorite official map, and favorite custom map? Why?
ac_ingress and OldeVillage. Ingress because the map isn't too big and too open. You have some nice encounters in the map. OldeVillage because it was the first map I've ever played, and liked the most when I was a tosoknoob back in the days. Still have the map saved on my pc :)
6) Bukz made a thread about adding maps or taking maps out, or both. Which maps would you like to see added to the package, and which maps should maybe be removed in your opinion?
ac_rattrap should be removed, it just doesn't look and feels like an official map imo. It's almost never played afaik. Some maps I'd like to see added are ac_terros because the poll showed the people want this map, and the people are the ones playing this game so I think you should listen to the people. Another map i really like is ac_cavern, It's just a nice map to be played in all kinds of modes. Maybe for all the gema players a nice gema should be made official?
7) You've played AC for a long time. I feel like you improved quite a lot in the last 2 years. What made you become better? Are there players you still look up to?
What made me improve are multiple things, I play more matches and inters, I have got a better pc, I joined really skilled clans who really helped me improve and I have grown older which made me think about tactics more. And there still are players who I look up to, Waffles for example, as he helped me a lot when i first joined {BoB}, and MorganKell, as he still hasn't had a liver failure yet (afaik). Also need to mention Jamz because he is still banning the cheaters all day every day and that must be a really annoying job.
8) Which three clans do you like the best, not counting a clan you've been in before, and why?
w00p , as they are one of the top clans in AC since the start
B} , not because they are superskilled, but because they are great, friendly guys, who only care about protecting the president ;)
TyD, they are cool guys (and girls) and have been around for a long time too, they also host ladders and thats pretty cool.
9) .rC| is still a relatively new clan compared to other established clans. Nonetheless it fastly made its way to become one of the top five clans in AC. rising Cubers... what can we or do you expect happening in the future? Will .rC| continue making its way to the top, maybe even supersede w00p as AC's #1 clan?
To be honest I believe you have to mention both w00p and oNe here as they both are the most skilled clans in AC atm. I think we will keep improving and eventually try to beat oNe and w00p 2-0 with any lineup and then become AC's #1 clan. We have beaten oNe and w00p, but not with every lineup possible yet and not always 2-0, so that will surely be something we keep improving on!
10) In competitive play, 2v2 or 3v3 CTF are most played. Which one do you like most, and why?
3v3, it is really nice to know that when you die or just fail you have 2 more teammates to clean your mess and still pull off the victory, it is basically some sort of confidence that you know you haven't lost a flag immediately. And you can still brag that you won vs a good team even though you failed and your teammates carried you.
11) Outside of CTF, what is your favorite mode in AC and why?
To play: TOSOK because it is one of my best modes. I also won the TOSOK AC Weekend Cup which actually surprised me as we faced really strong teams. So far thats the only thing I've ever won so I think its my best mode.
To watch: (T)KTF, because there is so much action, you can't camp long time because you will die very quick and you have to be really strong tactically and fragwise to win a game like this. When you play TKTF you have to be really coordinated with your teammates or else you will stand no chance.
12) Would you like to see the new version of ac_iceroad getting official or do you prefer the current one? Why?
Definetely the new version. The gameplay feels way nicer, and there are more ways to sneak. My scores are better on the new version compared with the old one, I think you can get more flags now.
13) You're from the Netherlands. Can you tell us what makes it a nice country to live in?
We live under sea level, we have great internet, we are all tall, you can drink when you are 16, and we have legal drugs. You can just walk into a coffee shop and buy them, though you have to be 18 to buy them in the shop, you can easily get drugs if you aren't 18 yet. The only thing I dislike is the weather as its raining here like 300 days a year.
14) The Netherlands are known to be relatively tolerant when it comes to soft drugs such as marijuana which you can easily acquire in the so called "Coffeeshops". Last year, the government planned to pass a bill to stop "drug tourism" - in the future only locals would've been able to buy drugs in those coffeeshops. As is so often the case, a compromise was arrived at: Every commune decides for itself if it's going to allow coffeeshops to sell soft drugs to foreigners or not. What do you think about the drug policy in your country? Is it good the way it is or should it be stricter?
The drug policy is great here, because in the shops, its good stuff, not some stuff made at home which has been messed with and what will make you end up in hospital. It also dramatically decreases the amount of drugs sold on the street, and that way you don't have drug wars like you have in example Mexico or Italy. I knew that when the government wanted to stop the drug tourism that it wouldn't work and eventually they would let the shops itself decide. The government makes so much money from the drug tourism it would be crazy if they stopped it. All the coffeeshops pay taxes so I see no problem in having them, the policy is good the way it is. The shops only have 3 rules, no selling to people who aren't 18 yet, don't sell harddrugs like cocaine, and they have to be at least 300m away from schools I believe.
15) Are the Netherlands going to have an own team for ACWC this year? Legend, bouke, ThePrinter and you could make up a good team ;)
I hope so! We would have a nice team. I just hope this time the ACWC isn't scheduled when I'm on holidays, or the others of the dutch squad. I think we do have a chance to reach the semi-finals then.
16) Are you a sports person? If so, which one/s do you practice and which ones do you like to watch on TV?
I certainly am! I play football (soccer) and in summer i also practice athletics, like 800 and 1500m. Sports usually allow me not to play on saturday because I always have matches. On TV I watch almost every sport, except for golf and horsebackriding which I find boring to watch, I'd rather play AC then.
17) What are your favorite movies?
300, Pulp Fiction, LOTR, The Expendables. And any movie with Adam Sandler.
18) Can you name a few of your favorite bands/music artists, songs or albums?

nVidia GeForce GT320, 4 Gb DDR3, 1 TB HDD. All I know, its a Packard Bell iXtreme7705.
I can get 1000 fps on most maps, but not stable, it switched around 750-1000 so I maxed my fps to a stable 500 which seems fine for me.

I believe that video games actually might do some good, as it can act like a stress relief. The caveat to saying this is that there is an age requirement on some games, and those should be followed. There should actually be more resolution to the game rating system, as it doesn't properly mirror human brain development.
The other part about age restriction and children and video games is the parents. There are plenty of parents that don't really care about the kind of video games their children play, some of these games which I think are a bit mature for the childs age. The classic 13 year old rager on COD shouldn't happen. Those children shouldn't be playing such a realistic game about mature concepts at that age. Much less be allowed to be in an online environment.
Note that I never say children should not play violent games, games that are based more on fantasy or those classic arena fighting games are just fine for some younger ages than video games like COD.

Most shootings in Germany end up with hunting weapons or don´t even start (like in my town!), just because "normal" people don´t have access to weapons. Prevention should be the solution. Everyone needs to keep an eye on his colleagues, classmates and so on (that´s how it stopped in my town). In my opinion games of course don´t make someone crazy or a killer. But of course, an already crazy minded guy probably shouldn´t play them (but they also shouldn´t possess a weapon!).
And again to LaPierre: Who should listen to someone getting money (nearly one million dollar per year) for defending weapons?
