Assaultcube - Black screen on startup

For some reason, whenever i try to start assaultcube, I get to a black screen, without even reaching the splash screen, and i'm forced to hard restart as i can't get out of it.

I've already reinstalled assaultcube a number of times, and all of my graphics card drivers are up to date.

have you updated your graphics driver? do games like sauerbraten or red eclipse work?

I haven't had a chance to try any other games since i've spent this morning doing a clean install as my OS was really messed up from one of the hard restarts.

I've reinstalled AS, and it partially works, although it lags like nothing i've ever played before.

I've reinstalled my GC drivers, but i only get about 1 Fps

I'll try another game once it's finished making a disk image for me to restore from if i have a serious problem.

Make sure you run Assault cube in compatability mode as you have Windows 7 64 bit there, I have found that problems with Win 7 can mostly be cured by setting "disable visual themes" then running it in Windows XP compatability. You should also be carefull as the AC installed can put files in your Documents folder under your user name, these are often not accessable to a program that is not being run under administrator privileges, thsi can cause all kinds of mayhem.

so should i set it to save files in the programs folder?

the game looks like it's working, but for some reason whenever i start the game, i have to reenter my settings, which is a bit irritating.

Any fixes?
