I agree with Cleaner that it shouldn't be on Steam until Spartans are implemented.

Why not?
If AC still free and opensource, where is the problem...
It can promote very much the game (bigger community, newcomers and more!)
By the way, please make an argument instead of saying just "no" or by posting memes.

Pweaks...

Yep Cleaner, i have already read this topic.
And?
I don't see any valid argument about "no"!
Here some positive feedback(s);
Pros:
- "Puting ac on steam could bring many new players."
- "Some free games on Steam aren't owned by Valve. They just are available on Steam."
- "People could download AC for steam, or non steam version :)"
- "It would be a great idea so long as servers would be able to accommodate steam players and non-steam players"
- "AC Portable works on steam. SO AC Should be ported to steam"

And here drawback(s);
Cons:
- Invalid argument like "Steam is horrible/shit" (wtf?)

Anyway, we need answer to this questions:
- The Steam version of AC and the original version of AC are the same?
- Can we keep downloading AC in the AssaultCube website?
That's all.

RE: AssaultCube on Steam? - Orynge - 24 Aug 13

Further cons:
- The devs have to pay to get on Steam.
- Valve don't add free games through Greenlight, afaik.
- Even if there are F2P games on Steam, most of them have paid expansion packs.

RE: AssaultCube on Steam? - Ronald_Reagan - 24 Aug 13

And more:

Have to program integration with steam.

RE: AssaultCube on Steam? - CaptainAhab - 24 Aug 13

I fee like AC is too "open" to ever be seriously considered for Greenlight.

Maybe try GOG's new Indie Portal if some of the devs are ever serious about this.

RE: AssaultCube on Steam? - Cleaner - 24 Aug 13

Steam (unlike AC) isn't a philanthropist entity and all they'll think of is make as much profit as they can. Even if they have a few free games it's only to attract you in their "system" and sooner or later you'll end up paying for some other game or feature (premium account, special editions, credits sales, no ads).
As mentioned somewhere above, games devs/producers have to pay in order to get they game(s) included in Steam's listing but that doesn't bother them since they easily catch up with their investments using this scheme.

At the end of the day that system doesn't adheres to AssaultCube ethics at all, noone shall have to pay anything whatsoever to play our favourite game, nor would they have to spend a penny to have new maps, game upgrade, custom weaponry and fancy skins.
Not to mention mandatory personal details asked for registration.

It is because of this unswerving concept that I stick heart and soul to AssaultCube.

RE: AssaultCube on Steam? - Undead - 24 Aug 13

why does everyone here hate money?

RE: AssaultCube on Steam? - bballn45 - 24 Aug 13

you guys all say know but something like this would bring some competition to AC.

RE: AssaultCube on Steam? - Krayce - 24 Aug 13

Above all, you have to know that this service was free!
This system start on july 2012 and it begin to be a paid service on september 2012.
Why? Cause of many fakes or ads projects;
Alden Kroll, designer at Valve, said to his community : « We have any interest to make money with this system. We want simply eliminate the background noise which parasite our system », In more, money collected are reversed in a charitable work, called "Child’s Play".
Anyway, if AC was register in the first week of this project...
...so, it was completly free and independant.
But now its too late, so you can close this topic instead saying bullshit.
Thank's for your comprehension!

PS: It cost 100$ to put a game in Steam Greenlight with a majority vote needed by Steam users of course.

Have a spliff or some pills of your choice but do whatever you want to get rid of your systematic display of hanger...

I've read it all over again and from pros to cons I didn't see any bullshitting, only correct and valid arguments.

RE: AssaultCube on Steam? - Krayce - 24 Aug 13

Cause saying only "no" without any reason it's a valid argument?

I hope you'll don't go full retard as you did in the "DUBSTEP" thread.

Steam is a support for commercial games wich AC is not, Krayce, sometimes, simple "NO" are enough, Steam = shit.

Like I said, it was a good opportunity when it was free...
...now it's too late!
So if AC Dev don't want to add AsaultCube in this system, I respect their choice and I totally agree with them.
But "no" still an invalid argument even if it's your personal reason.
You have to respect all systems around you even if you don't like it and make argument to keep the thread constructive.
It is valid for everybody, not only you.
Best regards.
