This map is an old one from .93 and even further back. It is ac_Elevation's brother map. It demands official map-pack status. It has it's quirks and some problems with implementation i.e. is laggy up the sides as Kiwi said, but it's one of the most fun maps ever made. Someone needs to fix her up to standards so we can get her in the package.

Look, get permission from the owner of the map before you do anything. Ensure they realise that once a map is included in AC, it can't be removed.

A remake would be awesome... assuming it follows the path of awesome that Riverside was and forever will be. However... the trouble is that there will never be another "Riverside" or even another "Elevation". Maps are created once and for all time. When they reach their finished product their style is never truly able to be duplicated without massive dedication. I'd love to see Shadow remake or actually just tidy up Riverside enough to get rid of the lag on the sides (if it makes ya feel better Shadow I eat lag like a BAWS :D.)

Not only are Riverside and Elevation excellent examples of what a map should be, they're downright AWESOME examples of a mapper reaching the pinnacle of success in a chosen pursuit.

what has to be done to reduce the lag? i just went on riversid3 and removed everything, the middle left me at around 3-4k wqd but the one below that(wvt??) was still at 11k.

Idk about the lag Sir Tak, you'd have to ask the devs about that one, but tbh I've never had lag on riverside and my comp is from 2005 i.e. the one I started with. :).

Am I the only one who likes rattrap? When I used to care about ladder stats that was my favourite ratio whoring map. I really enjoy it. Especially when playing it with experienced players in an DM inter setting. :) I will agree that it is absolutely rubbish for any more than 6 people.. It gets way too congested in some areas and shotguns can easily thin out the heard.

I would love to see a remake of it which would make it a bit more balanced. Keep the bases as they are but stretch out everything in between, add some new long halls and other areas to compensate for the smallness of the map. I suppose this very thing can be said about most maps.

I changed my mind. Hey Jiba! Make a few new big maps would ya! :D

Those maps push the boundaries, but don't exceed them drastically. The left/right sides of riverside confuse people who find everything is fine and then suddenly their computer lags.

Additionally, riverside's lighting is mostly fullbright, it needs re-doing.

I didn't see any screenshots or anything but I'm assuming the ac_riverside2012 on my computer is it. Didn't look that impressive. It's solid but I don't see why everyone's going nuts over it. You can argue that it's for game-play and not looks, but then you should bring ac_wasteland back if that's the case.

I was thinking, with riverside, what if the rocks were pushed further forward each side, making bends along that straight, if you couldn't see the other side, that would reduce the wqd to a playable level perhaps?

However (and I mean no offense by this to you) this map is a bit different from Rabins_Oasis and oldvillage, especially if it's to become official.
I feel like I sound rude with that, but idk how to say it in a nicer way - I'm talking about the map not you D:, just want to make that clear.

Looks better than before. :)
Hardcore detail mappers won't like it, has a lot of texture clash and such, but seems like an interesting map for gameplay. <3
Also @ performance. I play at /maxfps 75 to run most official maps with stable fps, but without the cap a lot of the maps can rise to 130+ easily. Rattrap cuts that number by more than half, while riverside matches or beats other official maps by staying at 75 around the whole map.

well those maps arent exactly the most architecturally advanced but i really wasn't citing those as examples. i have spent what seems like countless hours now editing, expanding, or contracting maps like ac_desert and ac_snow (obviously these versions are not available to the public because of copyright infringements). but while doing this i have found that i can keep the same appearance of the map while lowering ceilings/shrinking open spaces/etc...

if you are questioning my mapping abilities (that's cool man, you have reason to), i will have you know that there is really no "mapping" skill involved in editing map dimensions. you don't create new buildings or anything. its pretty much the art of copying and pasting in the right places (the way i look at it at least).

I believe our favorite dog is on the case to make a big map soon. I like rattrap a lot; I can't play it on my poor little net book (seriously poor graphic handing) but on my other laptop it is just fine.

I feel some nostalgia for riverside but it’s not my favourite map by Shadow, that will be elevation one of my two favourite official maps. If I were a dev I would be desperately trying to obtain dusk. Its a little gem of a map.
