So, I'm new to the game, and I download it, I try to open, I see the logo, it closes, the CMD opens, and I get,

If you'd used the forum search first, you'd could have told us what sort of things you'd already tried.
...probably unrelated, but I've never seen the "cannot use overbright lighting..." warning before.

Install the proper manufacturer drivers for your graphics hardware. That should help, unless the hardware itself is >10 years old.
